Daiwa ballistic 3000 advice
Submitted by Curndog on Sat, 2017-05-27 17:53
bought a daiwa ballistic 3000 spin reel today, I won't say where from but I told the guy I wanted it for mainly casting around soft plastic and maybe some bottom bashing for dhuies etc. sold it to me with 25lb braid. I'm now wondering if the reel is big enough and line is strong enough for this type of fishing. Would like the opinion of Anyone with a bit more knowledge about reels etc thinks? Thanks

Plastics
My plastics reel is a 2500 size with 15lb braid so should be fine.
Really depends how you fish. If you are a lock em up drag em out type bottom basher it probably wont suit.

Not really a drag em up type
Not really a drag em up type of fishers. I like to have fun and a bit of a fight but at the same time I hate losing fish!

I use
A certate 3000 with 30lb braid for pinkys and dhueys and it works perfect not sure how it would go on a 10kilo plus fish though
wont catch em sitting at home!

Thanks
Thanks for the reply fellas. I think I will stick with it and give it a go. What lb leader would you recommend for this type of setup? I usually use 60lb for jogging and bottom bashing but guessing might need a bit lighter for flicking plastics? I've never tried plastics but I'm keen to start

Leader
I normally have no issues with 40lb or 60lb for leaders when fishing from the boat.
I wouldnt be doing too much bottom bouncing with it but would be fine for a drift bait.
My biggest on the 2500 size reel is a 16kg Dhu on a McCarthy so they can cope with it.

Curndog. I have had a 4000sh
Curndog.
I have had a 4000sh ballistic for about 4 yrs. I love it. drag is smooth as silk. I've caught kingis and sambos to 6-8 kgs, absolutely no probs. Remember its the rod that does all the work. I fish 30 lb on a saltist 2-4 PE and give it heaps.

It really depends on how you
It really depends on how you fish and play a fish. I use a 2500 reel with 10lb and have knocked off some big fish. I do lose alot of fish too but for me that's the type of fishing I like. Light and giving them the upper hand adds to the excitement. 25lb should be more than suffice with 7kg of drag it has. Run a decent leader if you're losing bigger fish, 40lb?
