daiwa braid
Submitted by silly on Sun, 2012-01-29 16:24
Just trying to research some p.e 2 braids to spool up on my certate 3000. I'm quite liking the Daiwa braids at the moment and during my research i've mananged to come across a Daiwa PE 1 braid which has a breaking strain of 30lb.
Its Daiwa tournament 8 accudepth. Has anyone used this stuff? Seems like its very thin for a high breaking strain, would love to see if anyone has tried using it or has officially tested it.
If not are there any other daiwa braids which are recommended?
cheers

using daiwa samarai accudepth
using daiwa samarai accudepth 30lb (dunno what pe rating) and fit 300yds on a strdic ci4 4000, smooth casts well, and well suited to jigging, also using daiwa saltiga boat braid on 2 reels and am more than impressed, have some cheap suffix on other reels and the stuff is complete rubbish, will be buying a daiwa in the 2500/3000 range soon and plan on running 20lb accudepth on it again as ive been getting it pretty cheap. also have some sunline super pe on another reel which is nice but im more partial to the daiwa stuff, yet to try any of the varivas stuff, a bit out of my price range.
Here we go again.

Hey Righteo do you find the accudepth doesn't give you wind knots? I hate that and I get a bit from my finns (but never from my old spiderwire!)

havnt used spiderwire for years isnt it quite stiff?? havnt done alot of casting with the accudepth yet and im assuming its a more jigging orientated braid but it has felt nice casting medium/small poppers/stickbaits. my reel is slightly over spooled and havnt had a wind knot yet. i think i paid $55 for a 300m spool of 30lb so am pretty happy with that, cant find it quite as cheap atm... i have some finns on an old penn affinity 3000 its been on it forever and has lasted the test of time but its dia to breaking strain isnt as good as accudepth, keep in mind this line was put on the reel maybe 8 years ago, new finns may be alot better, dont they have that wind tamer stuff?

Yeah there's two types of spider wire I think. one type is coated with something and that's stiff. The other stuff is woven without a coating like other braids. It does get a little fluffy, but has cast beautifully for me. Finns has wind tamer - never tried it. Worries me what is said below by Oceanside - I have accudepth on a couple of reels - thought it would be OK.

the tournament accudepth 8 is different to what im using i think, unless its just a renamed one from "cough" the states. if you search around there are shinobi, samuri, tournament...... not sure if these are all the same but my knots have held fine (except ive just started using improved albrights to leaders and am having the braid cut through the leader on occasion, i think this could be my fault so will be learning those wank knots with the bobbin when i can be stuffed).
Here we go again.

I've got two reels with it. So far so good, but too early to tell. Some have voiced concerns over abrasion resistance and knot strength given it is so thin. The other issue, is that it's so thin you may need to use some sort of backing which is a hassle. My stella 5000sw took the whole 300m of 40lb tournament 8 accudepth, my 2010 saltiga 4000 needed backing for the same line.
The "most expensive, and therefore the best" braid they make is "SALTIGA Hyper PE 8 Braid". Whether it's worth the cost is upto you, I've not personally used it.

We stocked it, sold it and used it but the light stuff was snapping on us & customers. Abrasion resistance and knot strength is bad so we dont recommend it in the lighter PE stuff.
We stock other Daiwa braids that are good but we've been using the YGK Nitlon High Performance PE braid (coloured/depth metered line) and rate it highly. Price is similar to other good PE braids and PE2 & PE3 will be back in stock next week or so.

The DSBB is great but I
The DSBB is great but I wouldn't obsess about super low PE ratings for high poundage when you're gonna get wscrubbed off so easily, or the low diameter leads to poorer knot strength.
Below the ratings that the DSBB is available, I mostly fish tufline xp because its cheap ;)

Iv got accudepth on both my 4500 and 6500. Real quality braid mate, I can't fault it all all. The 85lb on the 6500 is amazingly thin!

If DSBB came in PE2 then i'd go straight for that hands down.. Have it on pretty much all my bigger reels. Most likely will go down the path of a conventional PE2 braid. Will be used frequently up north so the lower abrasion resistance does scare me a bit.
