Ah sorry mate, can read the post both ways I guess.

I dont' have one but am interested too, they look tight.  I remember shecky selling one a little while ago, he raved about them in that post if I remember right.  I'll see if I can dig it up, see if there was more detail.

Basically

They are the same reel as a daiwa pluton just an oversees model name being the difference

that and the fact they normally fit jigging handles to them and not twin baitcaster style handles

From (rusty) memory they also don't have the palm cast control on the side, have wider/beefier gears and more drag. There may be one or two extra bearings?

Levelwind.

Has syncronised levelwind (stops that grinding feeling when the line comes off the spool at an angle out the levelwind guide). Pluton is non syncro

The new one is oh so sweet.

Thu, 2014-05-29 16:54

The new one is oh so sweet. 10kg of drag up from 8 in the old one. Its the higher version of the pluton. Now sold in aus. Retails around the $700 mark.

It was either this or the Stella fi. Went the stella in the end.

I have one, well it's the wife's actually. Here is some quoted info. Basically it's a pocket Hercules, beefed up even from the Star drag Saltigas. Having said that, unless you want a level wind, a star drag Saltiga 20 will be more than enough.

"The major difference is that the Ryoga has Hyper Digigear (same C6191 marine bronze used in the heavy duty Saltiga Spinning reels and other top end Daiwa reels). The conventional Saltigas (15 thru 50) as well as their Lever Drag counterparts do not employ this highest end gear. Star drag Saltigas employ machine cut alloy gears and the lever drag Saltigas use helical cut stainless steel gears.

The Level wind mechanism would also add an element of additional cost to the Ryogas. The level wind on this Ryoga is synchronous to the spool, so it will move along with the spool when the spool is rotating. The Pluton and other non-Bay Jigging Ryogas have non-sync level winds.

Additional CRBB bearings, ultimate tournament drag, and the perfect double stopper are three more features which probably adds to the price tag."
