 I personally haven't been on

I personally haven't been on any from Darwin, but after seeing the fish caught aboard Arafura Charters on a couple of Ifish episodes, that is where I would spend my money.

Do alot of calling around

Mon, 2011-05-30 18:16

I went out on a charter up there 4 yrs ago and was left a little disappointed. We travelled 40nm out to get 1 sub 10kg mackie each and 2 or 3 small emperor.

Do some research and you should be fine.

Plenty of Trevs around but

Mon, 2011-05-30 18:46

Plenty of Trevs around but nothing more than around 10kg. Macks are the same but they are going to be hard to find around November as the water is too warm. Apart from Black Jews there are actually not too many BIG fish around Darwin waters.

Oct-December is right in the middle of the wet season which is not the best timing either.

Depending on how many people are going!!

Mon, 2011-05-30 19:17

I would do the bluewater thing in october, but november and not so much december is barra time. If you only have a couple of blokes there is the guide option. Darwins Barra Base are a highly respectable guiding business and fish Dundee beach bluewater which would be off tap/ bordering on mental fishing in October. There is another bloke called Mark West who is a s#@t hot guide. He can be contacted thru Tackle and Outdoor World on Cavenaegh St in Darwin City. As it being in the middle of the wet dodgy, that is usually the build up. By december it usually starts to rain and Jan/Feb are the big rain months. But it changes from year to year.

I would actually recommend

Mon, 2011-05-30 19:46

I would actually recommend the original barrabase.com.au as my pick of guides. Westy is pretty damn good as well. Geoff Corry from barrabase will tackle both the bluewater and a barra if they are on. I was up there for a few years before I moved to Hedland. Tell Geoff Dogy sent ya but dont believe any of the stories. (He usually operates out of Dundee and fishes Finiss and Peron Islands offshore)

Im a local

Mon, 2011-05-30 19:55

October to December is usually calm seas so I would go way out wide on an extended trip and get the usual bottom fish of golden snapper, trout ,cods, gold bands, mackies, wahoo, and the odd marlin and sail fish with the real possibilities of dogtooth tunas ( dog tooth are on my to do list this year )
When I need a charter I use arafura blue water charters the crew work hard at getting you onto fish and the deckie is a bit of a hottie ( an she's quick with the shark bat ).
Only drama is Darwin is full of bottom bashers with bait so drifting and jigging is not common practice and 20kg trevs are found and are considered bait thieves.
Last trip out to timore box only small dogtooths landed on the troll got smoked by the big stuff and marlin in the 40 - mid 150kgs are hooked (not always landed ) in the bait trail ( landed mine on a stradic 8000 went 110 ).
So come on up see Steve at tackle world and ask for the long range trips or Chase some barras at the rock in October

Arafura Bluewater Charters

Mon, 2011-05-30 21:03

From what I have seen on iFish, Hooked, Escape with ET and Fishin' Trip, Arafura seem to be the way to go when in NT. Deckie also looks the goods in her bikini

Fishbroome charters, Absolute

Tue, 2011-05-31 16:15

Fishbroome charters, Absolute ocean charters or Billfish charters would be a good start for Broome fishing, google them and then talk to them telling them exactly what you are looking to do. Now until november is the best time as you get an easterly in the morning and glass off in the afternoons .And the fishing is going off at the moment.

exmouth?

Tue, 2011-05-31 19:35

Just finished a three week trip there and had a ball both landbased and boat with the GTs even with the crap wind and rain.
For the boat charter I used Eddie from peak sportsfishing
His contender is a Hell of a rig and a good professional bloke I would definitely use him again.
You don't have to go far off shore for the fish either

Fish the Kimberley

Wed, 2011-07-27 18:53

Have a look into Buccaneer Sea Safaris. www.buccaneer.com.au

They run out of Derby just north of Broome. They do week long trips into the Kimberley and get onto some great fish including Black Jew, Gts, Barra, Spanish Mackerel and lots more.
