Decent beach/steep point spin rod?

Hey guys,

Can anyone suggest a middle to high end LB rod that i could use as a beach rod and future steep point rod? Will be paired with an 6000-8000 size reel and want to be able to cast up to 100 or so grams. Already have a 12ft heavy beach rod so wanting something more easily handled for throwing slices etc all day.

Thanks for any input

Chris

I use a 4500H Saltist or a 6000 Twinpower on my Demon Blood, the little Stradic would be way too small.

Thats Quobba, not Steep

About 280m of 50lb on the Twin and 320 of 40lb on the Saltist. 80lb leader but sometimes go lighter, depends on the location (rocks/reef/beach).

I've been spooled on the Saltist twice this year, might replace it with a Stella 10k with the 16k monster spool next year.

It would be a bit on the heavy side but it depends on how I'm fishing, if there is surface action/bait schools I'll use metals and wind them in flat out. If there isn't much going on on top I'll use 6 to 8 inch plastics, let them sink, give it a rip, wind up the slack line. Much less effort required compared to speed spinning.

Lemax

I second the Lemax President Royal!!

I use mine all the time and love it..... Its my main go to rod nowdays and they are not too badly priced either.

I agree with tony that the stradic may be a bit too small.. I use mine for chasing tailor etc... Caught my last 33Lb Mulloway on her though no problems!!

I also use the Saltist 4500, excellent reel for the money but spinning off the rocks.... Lemax rod with my Stella 10000SW...  Fantastic pair... I could probably have dropped down a size or 2 in the stella but its not too heavy for flicking all day.

check out the 9'6 NS SeaBass

Tue, 2012-10-09 17:20

check out the 9'6 NS SeaBass rod. rated pe 2-5, 30-90gm. Be perfect casting minnows like the sxr 12's and 14's. loads up verrry nicely. Probably a bit light for 85g metals though, just because of the tip.

N S rods

Thu, 2012-10-11 10:05

Where in Perth could I find a shop that stocks a range of N S rods?

I brought an N S Blackhole Magic Eye Torque PE 2 (try saying that after a few coldies) jig rod recently, compared to similar spec Xzoga, Megabass, Samuari the N S feels like a toothpic but loads up better and has the same, if not more lifting power.

I'll be down in Perth at Xmas and would like to have a look at more of theses rods.

Might be late, Alot of the quobba regulars spin with dogfights and GT rods, however these rods all being around 8'5 may be a bit short for a beach application.

Check out the Azusa 902M and 902H, I currently use the 902H with a Saltiga5000H, ballsy rod and has the power down low to easily get the fish onto the lower ledges. I think the 902M will be perfect. I mainly use 85g slices, however, it can easily cast 100g

The demon bloods are good rods and plenty capable to knock off macks, however, from my experience, they dont have as much down low so the bigger fish become a little more difficult to get up on the ledge for the ever important gaff shot. Still will do the job just may have to play the fish with the swells a little more.

If you want to go all out - checke Yamaga Blanks Blue Sniper 100H or 100MH - 10ft rod, the extra length will assist you when off the beach with surf.

OOOh

So many great rods mentioned, and not enough money to buy them all. Once a tackle junkie, always a tackle junky.

I just drool over posts like this. Being a boaty up here have packed the beach gear, but Whitehills, Tim's etc is looking appealing again for a leasurable fish. Demon blood or samurai (have 3 on the boat, 2 x jig10, 1 Jig12). Can fault Samurai in the range I have, so extrapolating they would be great in the 10ft + spins. And probably what I would get down south.

Hi Chris,The Demon Blood 962

Fri, 2012-10-12 09:10

Hi Chris,

The Demon Blood 962 is a very nice rod and would suit your application perfectly.

Another option would be the Jigging Master Shore Game 9'8. An awesome casting rod thats rated to cast weights upto 85gm though will handle 100gm with ease. Its lighter than your standard 12ft beach rod and makes it nice to cast with all day. Feel free to drop by to check them out.
