Deep Drop Rods

G'day fellas- I' after  bit of advice / encoragement on rod selection for 'Deep Drop'. I am in the process of setting myself up with an electric outfit and I have the 80lb braid, I am settled on the Tanacom 1000 FE and I am fairly sold on the rod but I wanted a few oppinions first.... I was looking at the Daiwa Saltist G and the Tanacom rod both at about the same price but I am leaninhg towards the Tanacom rod as the bent butt is detachable... Any input is welcome...

Cheers....

bent butt, swivel tip rods but have now gone for standard jigging style rods as they more enjoyable to use and you still can place them in the rod holder while winching up baits or jigs (unlesss you have a bad back) . 50lb -80lb outfits are most suitable. Ive played with the tanacom aus rods and there broom sticks and seemed over kill for fishing over here unless you after a swordfish.

If you are after a bent butt a bunch of us brought plenty of these with few complaints. -

Daiwa Saltiga Dendoh Style SA-B66MHF-DD Deep Drop Rod6'6"40-100 lb.6Aluminum/Curved Butt$179.99

Anyways all IMO.

It would be worth considering the Daiwa grandwave electric rod too. It is a fair bit cheaper than the tanacom and features a detachable bent but.

Super Deep rod

Thu, 2013-01-31 13:03

We use a parabolic jig rod out there in the Super Deep. We use the Jigging Master brand and it has plenty of grunt and puts all the pressure on the fish not your back. Suits nicely with a Daiwa Electric reel or other brands and very lightweight to hold.

We dont recommend the " traditional " electric bent butt rods as many are too long and/or too stiff. We prefer the angle of a normal rod when fighting the Super Deep species and thats when jigging or using baits. The bent butt rods are fine for putting the outfit into the rod holder and using the electric to catch the fish but for fighting the fish ie standup and manual wind like what we do then a parabolic jig rod is the go.

Any more questions feel free to PM us.

I'm not necessarily after a bent but rod I just liked the idea of having the option of both in the same rod, to be honest I have no idea what I want as I have never tried deep fishing but I have spent a lot of money in the past on gear that isn't all that good so I just want to get good gear that will last and do the job rite...

Southcity- I did look at the rods you suggested but they were so much cheaper than the other two I mentioned I just assumed they may not be up to much... I am glad you and some others like them as they are now back on the list...

Flangies- That looks like a good option.... I will check them out, when you say they are a fair bit cheaper- do you know roughly how much??? - cheers...

OT- I did read that Ryan and you guys use the TM rods.... and the parabolic rod looks cool.... I was a bit put off by the fact that it doesn't have a roller tip and no bent butt option but does that really matter?? what sort of money are we talking to get a rod that will tick all the deep drop boxes?

thanks for the sugestions guys- I have to admit if the Saltiga Dendoh rod is up to the job then that would probably be my favorite option now at 180 bucks that is a big saving... I could use the rest to buy another PE4-6 jigging rod with the savings....

Roller tip

Thu, 2013-01-31 16:34

I wouldn't be too put off a rod because it doesn't have a roller tip. I have used rods both with and without roller tips and my preference would be for a standard eye tip. This is because the braid more often than not seems to find its way off the roller and slide down between the roller and the frame of the guide onto the pin.  This must create additional friction and wear on the line which is exactly what you were trying to avoid by using a rod with a roller tip in the first place.

The Jigging Master rod we use in the super deep is the Evolution Titanium 400g, This is the rod we use for both dropping baits aswell as jigging our super deep 1kg jigs. This rod we do for $609 for FW members. Dont be scared by the price tag though as we often sell the Ugly stik Bluewater Jig 37kg rod to alot of our customers including FW members and we do those for $199which is still more than suitable.
