Demersal Closure

I'm confused - I thought I read in here that demersal ban begins on October 1 but has been moved to October 2 and people without fishing licence free to fish on 2nd October.
Dept. of Fisheries website indicates ban begins on 15 October and runs until 15th December (thought it was end of January).

West Coast Demeral ban is usually 15 Oct and the demersal ban in the Sounds is Oct 1. The 15 Oct has been pushed back 48hrs for the 'free' fishing day on 16th but you still can't fish for demersals in the Sounds

Just to clarify - the closure in Cockburn Sound from Oct 1 is for pink snapper.

I stand corrected, might struggle to convince fisheries you were fishing for dhueys in the Sounds prior to 15 Oct though

Would think they could only

Would think they could only bust you if they actually see you pull in a pinky in Cockburn Sound and not return it immediately. Looks like the pinkies going to stay outside of Cockburn sound until after 15th October anyway. Saying that, I went over a massive school of something not far from the Cockburn power boat club last night - quite a way south of the channel in. Ditched all my bait earlier so couldn't check them out. Got the co-ord's so may have to go fishing there to satisfy my curiosity - will make sure I use a dhuey rig though.

I rang fisheries last year to clear up the term fishing and they said it is at the discretion of the officer to determine whether you are demersal fishing or chasing sambos and can infringe you if they believe you are demersal fishing.

Dunno if it is viewed differently for the ban of a single demersal species but in light of recent events it appears fisheries officers have a dart board approach to infringing.

Saw a school on the surface last Sunday.

Tried bait, soft plastic and even my landing net for no success. Haha
