DHU Day
After picking the boat up from Chivers on Wednesday, we thought yesterday would be as good a day as any to go out and test the new mods. We had a HDS10 Gen2 with a 1kW tranny fitted, some more lights, handrails and reconfiguring - and needless to say, the sounder is amazing, and cant wait to get into the deep water to test it out properly!
I thought it would be a good chance to catch up with my mate Simon since we were on break together for a change, so we headed out with my Dad from Dawesville at around 7:20am. The cruise out was not too bad, bit of a following sea, and we had first lines in the water at 8:50. Not long and the DHU account was opened, followed by a sambo, then some more DHU's. In total for the day in this area we landed a couple of sambo's, at least 12 Dhu's, and had a few fish that took us back into the caves/reefs. The Dhu's were pretty much instant hits when the sounder screen started to light up, with one drop being a double header of 55cm Dhu's on my line, Simon had one and my dad had a reefing. Some great fun was being had. With this came time for Simon to chuck a jig on and have some more fun. Of the dhu's, all bar 2 were put back down on the release weight, with the 2 keepers being me with about a 92cm 15kg, a PB for me
and Simon, who got his first metro legal Dhu, and on an octo jig, and as we then found out, on his birthday - about 83cm and 11kg! So congratulations mate and happy birthday, and hopefully you enjoyed the day out!
Once that second big dhu hit the deck is was lines in and the call made to go and try find something else. We chugged along into the easterly for about 16km to a patch on the way home that we have done well at previously. lots of activity on the sounder and hits, but unfrtunately the pinks we wre hoping might be there (one fish that we are really struggling with at the moment!) However did manage to pick up a fat 54cm KG (which from memory was another PB for me!).
All in all it was a great day out, and even more so to see such a healthy fish supply in an area we have been out to a few times now and it seems that is is quite spread out too.
Hope you guys enjoyed the read and pics, I know I really enjoyed the day!

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
