Went out early

Wed, 2014-12-17 11:32

Rough as guts first up but wanted to hit the "solunar" window.  Ended up with an 81cm Dhu by 7.15am, caught the biggest sergeant baker I've seen for a while, and was back at the ramp by 9.30.  Wasn't too many out first up apart from the potters, but quite a few heading out as I came in - suspect the whether got a bit better too.

Dhus

Wed, 2014-12-17 11:34

Went just north of cape nat yesterday and caught 8 dhus all between 50 - 73cm. Nothing big but kept two at 65 and 73 so good eating size. Got a fair sized swallowtail on jig aswell which was a nice suprise.

You trawled up a pinkie

Wed, 2014-12-17 13:05

You trawled up a pinkie is that what you are saying, where you trying for something else or did you target pinkies with a trawled lure. I haven't heard of this before that's why I'm surprised not doubting that that is how you caught it. Well done if it was the targeted the species.
A great catch from a yak all the same.

Yep, that's what I'm saying

Wed, 2014-12-17 14:38

Yep, that's what I'm saying .. Well Trolled actually.. When your only in 7-8 m and slow trolling a lure that maybe gets to 5-6 m it's not as uncommon as you might think !!
And I was targeting snapper yes!
Would've been happy with anything that'd pull some drag tho !

Yes pinkies and other demersals hit trolled lures occasionally

Wed, 2014-12-17 13:56

Especially deep  diving lures like X-raps and halco lasers (crazy deep type) Probably not a common event around Perth but happens alot up north along shallow reefs its always a great surprise

Think IFish did a session on it once and yes can be quite common when Snapper are in the shallows.
