diesel fuels

a little advise about Diesel fuel please.
I just purchased my new Ford Everest, which is a Diesel, same drive train & motor as the Ford Ranger.
My question is, as first time owning a diesel, are all diesel fuels the same, or should I be using a particular brand???
thanks in advance

Diesel
I go to the Puma station in Neerabup NOR.
I find they have a good turnover because of the price & therefor always good clean fuel. I guess a large turnover is the key to good clean fuel.
Not a problem so far.
Also a bottle of adative also helps keep it clean...
Cheers & Stay safe

I usually go to caltex or BP
I usually go to caltex or BP for their premium diesels, but I run my patrol alot on Baileys Marine diesel because I get it free from the boat. Car runs fine on the marine shit but I find its a bit less economical, even than regular diesel. No idea what baileys use.

Yeah avoid bio diesel if you
Yeah avoid bio diesel if you can. It gives you less power and less economy from my experiences

I generally go for BP or
I generally go for BP or Caltex vortex.
both decent products. As someone stated further up use from good turnover outlets if possible.
My previous title was "petroleum engineer" (not that I had a lot to do with the refinement process) but there are certainly better quality products to be had ....ie the BP or Caltex
some additives (diesel conditioner) can help with longevity for sure but not sure I would believe al the "better fuel economy stuff"
A small amount quality low ash two stroke oil (100-200ml / tank) can certainly provide lubrication benefits. (will not gum up engine or clog filters as the oil changes in chemical composition when added to diesel)
nice car BTW if I didn't need a ute I would be looking at the Everest.

agree
And with a little bit of luck the 2-stroke oil might increase the fuel density and give you a bit more bang. Good filtration is the key with all late model diesels.
My opinion only.

diesel
thanks mate, looks like it will be either Caltex or BP, as both stations are close to home.
The Everset is a great car. Have not seen one on the road yet, looking forward to some beach fishing around Jurien Bay at the end of the month and testing the car on the sand

When l first got my 2010
When l first got my 2010 ranger l did alot of comparisons between fuel usage from different servo companies. I found l was getting better mileage from caltex vortex. It wasnt a huge difference but noticeable. Was it running better , who knows.
These days l just fill up when l need it.
For what its worth My neighbor works for bp and mentioned united use there fuel.

BP, the cleanest fuel for your diesel. I work in a major trucking company and we would not use anything else.

Steer right away from bio diesel
Even my old school TD42T (non-intercooled ) Nissan suffered from it. Used it for a while, mixing with normal diesel, developed a problem whereby it wouldn't go off idle, leave you stranded halfway across the road until it decided to come good, running like a pig. Went to the Diesel service place, first thing he asked was, " are you using Bio diesel" "yes" "DON'T" Advised to run injector cleaner through it, problem went away and has never recurred. The tip-off should have been the crust of crap down the spill tray under where the nozzle hangs on the pump, instead of the usual oily sheen. I'd hate to use it in a highly-tuned modern diesel.
As for BP, certainly widely used. There was a claim floating around a few years ago that the Kalgoolie area BP distributor alone was selling more than the total for the entire state of Victoria.

lol funny to read about
lol
funny to read about people advising to not use bio diesel
since 2004 i have run all my vehicles on bio diesel from the local gull servo . first was 92 4.2 cruiser work ute , just a fishing , woodcutting hack that was in top mechanical nick when i sold it engine wise having run up 402000 km with no major engine probs from using bio diesel ,
my mechanic was even shocked at how good a nic the engine was in for the mileage
he was happily advising me to stay the fcuck away from bio diesel , when i told him it was all i used , he was speechless , all he could say was i must be lucky lol
then i bought a 2007 4.2 turbo diesel , it also ran fine on the bio , no issues at all , my current prado also has had 5 years on it , no issues at all either , guess im just a lucky bugger , pity it doesnt work like that with my lotto numbers
my call on using it for 11 years is imo it actually keeps the engine cleaner, and it runs better with less servicing etc , thats my experience with it , milage is about the same
all of those engine worked hard , long runs pulling heavy loads often , they whernt thrashed , but worked , how you drive has alot to do with imo
similar with life expectancy/mileage on offroad tyres ,

same here
same here though the 200 usually gets United or Puma.
All my previous 3 Hiluxes and 2 landcruisers ran almost exclusively on B20.
Too much misinformation about it.

Haha. I used to aquire a good supply of 100% bio diesel from the Darwin plant when it was running. Used it in my bj40. Cleaned out the carbon so well I had to do a couple of quick oil changes as the filters clogged straight up. After that it ran really clean. Clean filters, clean exhaust. Not good for modern injector pumps and silicon seals though.
Also ran avtur for a while. That needed a bit of 2 stroke oil for lubrication as it's not designed to run in piston engines.

Any
Have had cruiser and Nissan diesels over the last 25 years, used any brand that was open when needing to fill up and never had a single problem.
Cannot see if one is any better than an other or causes damage to injectors if one changes fuel filters with each oil change

Agree Carnarvonite
Our 93 Hilux always fueled up were we saw cheap diesil. Now I have the 2010 Prado do the same. No probelms with either 4x4. Get nearly 11klms to the liter with the Prado.
