Not alot of 'reef' on the inside Russ.

One good option and a good safe learning spot, would be to shoot up the inside to the top of the island and then around into Herring Bay.  With the low tide in the morning it will be very nice inside.

Go into the bay and get on a mooring right up in the NW section.  About 5-6 metres there and you will see a few crays (kakkas) and fish.

If water is OK and confidence is good, you could even go to the ENE side of Carnac.

Make sure you have ya dive flag up high - this is especially true when diving in open water.  Had a boat stop on top of my hooka line last weekend near GI...and I was within 50m of my boat! Another tip, have a quick release on ya hose...just in case a passing boat does hook you up...and practice using it.  If I hear an incoming boat, my hand is on that release!

Have fun!

I was diving in Herring Bay

I was diving in Herring Bay yesterday, bit of zigzagging to get up to the right reef and we just let out anchor chain until we were quite close to the reef. Very few crays but a few buff the size of horses!

Pete, we have a power snorkle with a flag on it and it stays no more than 12mtrs behind us as that is the length of the hose, plus one big one on the boat

we might look at that area tomorrow if the wind doesnt make it too rough

2 divers Russ?

Hopefully you get the chance sometime this week!

The D9 is another option too...as long as no boats are sitting on top of it.

If I had the room I'd bring my hookah system up to Exy and you could have a go on that.

Cheers Pete

Located eastern side of the sound about halfway.  I can get my co-ords for you on Thurs Russ.  From memory the bottom is about 12m.  You could have a gander at the top deck as 2 down, then do singles deeper.

It is a nice dive when the vis is good and a great dive at night.  There are a few panels rusting away (swaying in the current), so you do have to be careful on it.

Yeah Jamie, it has silty decks and especially so inside, so don't take a buddy who 'fins' everywhereYell
