Flick some lures around the
Flick some lures around the snags on the way down for some good trout. Make sure you have your fishing license. Plastics around the rocks bars produces some good fish at times as well.

We've caught some great
We've caught some great trout right at the bar amongst the old reef. They are pretty much the whole length of the river. Mate of mine from work was there a week ago and pulled a 47cm bow at the ramp so there are some good trout around.
Have fun.

Black bream
Should be a few black bream down towards the mouth.
Might pay to check if the mouth is open,if so you may not have too much water to play with.

Beautiful place
I used to kayak down there every year wen i was round 18 or so,one of my favourite places to go and relax. I thought it would be to saline, isn't the river tidal from just upstream of the boat landing down to the rivermouth? or is that only wen the mouth is open.... thats the impression i was under anyway. with that i would have thought it to be too saltly, i was told by a hut owner not to bother trying for yabbies for that reason. at that time the mouth was shut tho.
As for the bream i used to get some good ones around the snags and rocks under the cliffs, but mainly the mouth is a nursery u'll find bigger bream upstream.

Gents,
Can you confirm you need a fishing licence for the Donnelly river.....is this classed as fresh water ?
If so ill need to check size limits on the Bream and trout.

Yes
If you are targetting freshwater species, unless you are under 16yo.
"...A Freshwater Angling Licence is required to fish for freshwater fish in waters south of Greenough (29°S) and above the tidal influence, including all lakes, dams, rivers and their tributaries...
Trout (all species) minimum size is 300mm.
