Double swag

Hi Fishwrecked crew, I`m looking at upgrading my King Size single swag and getting a good quality Double Swag. When i take the ball and chain away camping it seems to be me who draws the short straw and gets the colder side when then Zipper slowly undoes itself through the night. The Swag i`ve had for over ten years was made in Mount Gambier in SA, Its a John Whiltshires. He makes a great swag but it is just a swag it doesn`t have the tie of points or any extras that alot of swags have to try and keep you comfortable and not so claustraphobic like the ones of old. Does anybody know of the better West Oz Swags?? I`m sure there are plenty and personal choice will be the decider but because I haven`t looked at buying one for ten years i`m sure your advice would be helpful. Cheers Timmy

I have an OZTRAIL double

Mon, 2011-06-20 18:59

I have an OZTRAIL double swag, I bought it off ebay about 2 years ago and it hasn't missed a beat. I've slept in it in the rain and frosts and it doesn't leak one bit. It has the flywire and canvas ends that both unzip and covers that both zip all the way down to the end which makes it easier to set up your bedding. Think it was about $450 and has more then enough room for 2 people.

Would never go back to a single!!!

Heres a link http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OZTRAIL-MITCHELL-CANVAS-DOUBLE-SIZE-SWAG-/180682456149?pt=AU_Tents&hash=item2a11837c55 They've come down in price since i got mine!!!!

Plenty of crew in the Kimberley running these mate, good swags. Mines still great after 17 years of use.

Best tip is to go the thickest quality mattress straight up. Dont skimp on it.

burke and wills are pretty

Mon, 2011-06-20 20:40

burke and wills are pretty good, can get em in a few different colours too. ive had mine many years, a single aframe, ver snug. the canvas roof bit goes 2ft forward of your pillow/mesh so you get a good wind break, 75mm mattress standard. comes with hardcore straps and clips compairded to the ring style. only let down is it dosent have a pvc base so i have to lay down a ground sheet if its filthy weather. i prefer an a frame thou, easy as between two trees and better rain runoff i belive compaired to a dome.

cold side!! what you do is dig a 2m trench a foot deep fill it with 100mm of coals from the fire and fill it back in and lay your swag on it. electric blanket ala bushstyle.

I have used my mates AOS

Mon, 2011-06-20 22:19

I have used my mates AOS double and it is definatley worth a look... He bought it in Karratha for $700 but that is k-town prices... deffinatley check them out though as they are extreemly well made and very comfortable...

My king single is an Oztrail so not Ozy made but for the price was very good value @ $170 (complete angler Rockingham) and I cant fault it one bit- it is easy to set up, the poles are strong which is where most swags fail. It is comfy and I have even slept on the rock groyne at port Dennison with waves splashing over me and it didn't let any water in. I did find the double can be a pain to carry around as it is so much bigger so if your missuss doesn't come with you all the time and you would only need it on occaisions then I would think the cheaper Oztrail will be fine- they realy are good value.
