dual battery system

Would welcome some input.
Had a dual battery system installed in the 80 series landcruiser 7 years ago.
Along with this had $10660 worth of extras and work done on the vehicle from the same store, I'll list the work later.
Yes correct nearly 11K of business.
Dual battery system installed by shop and thought it was ok.
I don't tend to flatten my batteries all that often, so when it was needed two years later and still under warranty it failed.
Went back to the store.... no worries mate we'll fix it.... they replaced the unit under the bonnet.
Two years later when needed again failed back to the store replaced again... she'll be right they said.
Now failed again and took it back to this Nationally franchised store who said the parts of the dual battery system have been installed incorrectly and the wirings a mess, we can fix it for you for ~$1360 mmm
Ok but I paid $790 for the original unit and now you say the whole jobs a mess and you want to charge me again ... this time $1360 for the original work I had done, that never worked, and for which I paid $790... ???? So I said listen I understand its been a period of time BUT, I have been bringing it back and taking your word on it, after all you are a NATIONALLY RECOGNISED FRANCHISE so meet you half way, I'll pay for all parts approximately $700 and you cover the labour.....
Nope....not good enough. they want me to pay for the whole lot again as there is now a new owner of the store....
Mmmmmmmmm so Have spoken to the store manager, no luck, State Manager and clearly told him of my ~ circa $11000 worth of loyalty in one go... no luck .....not to mention all of the bits and pieces after that.... and also spoken to the Australia Wide Managing Director.... So what are your thoughts gents? Nationally recognised franchise who show up at all the camping and 4x4 shows with their national warranty....
System was not installed correctly to begin with, failed when needed,
Replaced, Wiring still the same,
Failed when needed,
Replaced, Wiring still the same,
Fails again...
Now out of warranty and fails again, and they want to charge me $1360 to fix what I paid for in the first place,
I offer to pay for all parts approx. $700 aud, but that's not good enough,
Am I being unreasonable??? Should I name them???
Also on the Toyota 4x4 forum so it could get costly for them... Your thoughts???

No.... don't name them. Speak

No.... don't name them. Speak to consumer protection, tell them the details and they will let you know if you have a valid claim. From your details you may very well be entitled to have the repairs covered by them.

Any "name and shame" action will play against your claim!

If you have proof of previous

If you have proof of previous repairs that led to the faulty installation then yes you may have a case -but only if the business has continued through ownership change in the same trading name (assume it has)
Its not a great outcome but i think you would be hard pressed to get them to honour it - i am not saying thats right but you have to look at it from the new owners perspective (put youself in his/her shoes) there is no concrete way of knowing that someone else had not had a go at fixing it and stuffing up the wiring, especially given the passage of time - Dual battery systems are not that complicated.....

id be going back to them with

id be going back to them with records of repair work if youve got them. even though the owner has changed, if its the same business they should still legally have all the history archived.
if they start playing hard ball, find out if they need to special order some parts in, if they do...tell them to go ahead and order them if your not required to make a deposit. then go have the work done by someone else - leaving this 'unnamed company' slightly out of pocket for the parts that may take them a while to on-sell.

or get the parts through someone else, maybe buy them online and have someone handy give you a hand to fix it. like pelagicyachts said, theyre not that complicated.

Id be very vigorous in

Thu, 2015-05-07 17:15

Id be very vigorous in pursuing what is clearly poor workmanship in the first instance and poorer after the following instance. Too often these companies use their corporate muscle when an individual is in a compromised situation such as needing the vehicle up and running again. Ive got an awful feeling based on my previous experiences as to who this company might be. I do concur however in not naming them at the moment but not dismissing it out of hand should it prove to be a last ditch necessity.

write down all details of any phone calls or conversations you have with them.

This will help if you have a claim against them.

i got pretty jacked off with

Fri, 2015-05-08 11:18

i got pretty jacked off with the service and attitude the Perth based "well known national 4x4 outfitter" - for my 200 series i bought my new bar out of melbourne and had it trucked here cheaper than they could supply it and fitted it myself -
the issue was not the price difference- but the feeling that they thought they were doing me a favour by fitting it for me when it suited them in a few months time....pretty average
I dont need to name them, they will find out the hard way when things go to sh 1t here that customer service actually matters.....

dual battery bump

Tue, 2015-05-12 11:53

The latest....
Friday CEO/MD says the State manager will sort something out to resolve. Good I thought...
Call the State Manager, he's ducking and weaving.
Store Manager says; "We have no record of the sale... do you have a copy..."
Well yes I do, so I go and get it take it to the store and allow them to copy the page.showing they had done the work and the other approx. $11000 eleven thousand dollars of work
Gents note this is approximately (7) years ago this was installed, lets not hide from that. Equally the system has never worked as designed and intended. Each time it was needed it failed. Also consumer affairs and fair trade usually want a complaint within (5) years... This was the period I trusted them and they continued replacing bits but I STILL did not have an effective system.
So he said he would call.... No call... I waited until today
I called him, he starts off by calling me a liar... mmmm oky dokie, and makes claims the vehicle is not driven regularly, it gets about three runs a week at about 40km plus each time..
So now they only think just the solenoid needs to be replaced, whats that worth $100 plus?? well sorry and excuse me, but why then say the wirings a complete mess and needs to be replaced? its either the solenoid needs to be replaced for circa $100 plus or the quote you gave me for the whole wiring and dual battery system needs to be replaced for apprx $1366... so your trying to GOUGE me??? You cannot have it both ways its either $100 or $1366 and somewhere you and you're NATIONALLY FRANCHISED business is taking the piss... MD/CEO said they would resolve... lets see.
