eagles

Well done eagles tonight. Good to see you back on the horse again. Now need to back it up with a good win over port and who knows maybe top four not out of reach. Welcome back embley we missed you. Was at the game and the umpiring in the first half was possibly the worst I have seem all year and that is saying something bring on the tirade from the anti eagles brigade

Did the eagles play?

Mon, 2012-08-13 17:45

Didn't watch the game because I only support one team, and it's not the eagles.  My team just has to concentrate on what they need to do at the moment and win every game from here on in.  I watched my team play on saturday afternoon and watched a team that will play in a grand final this year (no, not fremantle, but adelaide).  They play lions, demons and suns.  they will finish top two, they will have two home finals and hopefully eliminate collingwood in the process!  Freo, we weren't good enough but not disgraced either.  a bit more work to do to match it with the best in the competition.  And I don't rate the eagles as the best, far from the best!  they had an easy start to the season, they're being found out now as they come up against top teams (adelaide and sydney).  and if you think beating geelong at home is something to hang your hats on, remember round 1????

Wonder how many Dockers would get a run in the Pies best 22.

Pav, Fyfe, Mundy, Hill (maybe) not many others. I'm happy with our list randall.

Stephen Hill would get a run

Mon, 2012-08-13 19:34

Stephen Hill would get a run in any team.  I dare any team not to tag him.  Adelaide tried it last year (under Neil Craig) and he cut  them to pieces.  His, and the team's challenge is to break that tag.  He cops the best tagger every week.  We need more quality in there to take the attention away.  Fyfe and Morabito will go a long way to change that.  Do you know that Fremantle have never had Sandilands, Hill, Mundy, Morabito and Fyfe play in the same game? Can't wait for that day! (And I'm not convinced Sandi is right for the team! I rate Griffen).

edit - throw barlow into that as well.

Hill is a class act.  We need one more quality mid, and one more quality tall forward. Not Cloke either.  He doesn't want to come so forget him.  Goddard as a free agent? Gunstone I think is a tall West Aussie that could come home? Haven't seen much of him, but I think he is doing well at Hawthorn?  People have spoken about Essendon not yet signing Gumbleton.

Surprised it's taken you this

Mon, 2012-08-13 18:55

Surprised it's taken you this long to respond, still crying over your teams loss and that they probably won't make the finals this year looool. But of course you've already played and won your grandfinal so I suppose that's all that matters. I don't really care how you rate the Eagles because you're a supporter of a crab side and wouldn't expect a fair and honest opinion. If you read how Mick Malthouse rated the top sides you'd probably be quite suprised at what he has to say. I hate to say it but I rate Collingwood and Hawthorn better than Sydney and Adelaide. Freo weren't good enough.....aren't good enough. Another blown opportunity methinks.

I think Malthouse is wrong

Mon, 2012-08-13 19:25

I think Malthouse is wrong when he says Sydney and Adelaide don't deserve their current positions.  I think Collingwood and Hawthorn can win the flag....   if they get there.  If Adelaide and Sydney finish one / two, they get both home finals.  I can't see either of the other two beating either at home.  Collingwood can win at ANZ, but can anyone beat Sydney at the SCG???  I'm predicting an Adelaide / Sydney GF.

Ha ha yep they needed that one.  Probably pretty fortunate tomahawk went down.

Deliberate out of bounds was on fire last night though don't think it changed the score as it went both ways.

The leadership group should be having a word with Brendan this week for his high contact to the face appeal in the last quarter that clearly was a touch to the shoulder.  Leave the acting to crabs like hams Brennan looks to have some genuine talent

With a couple or three of the graders out it was a loss but only by 28 points.

Not to bad considering you were done by them twice this year by a combined score of 83 points.

Good players out

Sun, 2012-08-12 07:45

Brock, Geelong had Corey,Chapman, Kelly and no doubt several others out. All teams at different times have injury problems as most people will recognise, but the eagles have been without 4 of our best all year, Embley,Nickoski,Kennedy and Lecras some teams have the depth others fall short. Geelong made a great effort but fell short on the night, i can guarntee all the other teams in the comp are watching each other because this year is wide open.

Pav vs Jako, two great champions!

Mon, 2012-08-13 18:02

This week our great Pav equals your great Jako on 276 games as the most games by a WA based player.  putting aside Jako's two premierships, (say they had played in the same team???) who would be the better player?  Better still would Jako have negated the Pav like he use to negate Carey???  So many variables aren't there?  Delivery into the forward line?  Third man up options?  One on one, who would win?

As a straight out key forward, i'd agree that carey was better (player, not person).  Pav has that added quality that he can play midfield and has also been an All-Australian defender too.  Pav much more versatile.

Sydney played who on the Weekend?

Mon, 2012-08-13 20:41

Randall you're forgetting one BIG factor in the finals equation relating to Sydney. There will not be a final held at the SCG this year. Reason : there is a refurbishment going on at the SCG that puts a massive limitation on the size of the audience who can watch the game live ( same reason Eagles played Hawks in 91 GF at Waverley - Artic Park and not the 'G') The AFL will not give up gate takings so the game will be played at Homebush (ANZ Stadium). The Swans become a beatable team in those circumstances and the Pies have done that regularly at that ground.

Agree with the Crows

Mon, 2012-08-13 22:17

Sanderson has taken the lessons learnt at Geelong and run the template over the Crows very quickly - resulting in a quick upgrade!Perhaps their issue is lack of finals experience? For those of us that don't see the SCG too often its easy to miss the current state it's in. For the Hawks Buddy will provide the X factor - pity Cyril is out for a bit though.

Hate on me as much as you want mate. With only 3 rounds to go, you will only win the port match. Hawthorn and collingwood will hand your asses back to you. Not a realistic chance to make top 4 and therefore no home final. 2013 may be the year but unfortunately the eagles peaked at the wrong time of the year and gave their supporters a false sense of September hope. Injuries didn't help their cause but every team has them.
