In South Oz, out of Port Lincoln, before I came over here. Get a big Greenlip, slice through for big patties, tenderise, do in egg and breadcrumb. Squeeze lemon juice on, hard to beat. When I first came over here, I went with some blokes to get abs. "these are abs? WTF" never liked them as much. In fact,I can't recall a single time I ever actually went gathering, even when they were easily available off the reef here, no closed seasons. Just spoilt, I guess.
once we have reached our quota , i leave my catch bag in water for up to 30 mins ...let the buggers relax , before we put them into an ice slurry ...this seesm to help keep them softer for the plate
once there home , i remove meat, and gently ''TAP ''it with a hammer about 10-15 times each one , while holding them with a finger nail on a solid wooden board ... no bashing ...just enough to soften the meat ... then crumb them
cook em super quick in pan with hot oil , drain and serve with lemon wedge and sweet chilli mayonaise ...
totally soft and delicous ......anyone who says there tough or chewy is not preparing them correclty , no matter the variety , greens , browns or roe
South oz local areas are thinning out now Ranmar. need to keep secret spots secret .we used to slam them onto the concrete ,footfirst, inshell(after being humanely euthanised) until the foot just splits . slice em up and cook em quick. bacon onion and cream or honey garlic .. delish!!

All are Tasty if looked after!
brown and greens are great cut em thin give em a belt , I like em deep fried with batter or shallots and garlic butter .
generally find the greens on the flat rock and the browns on the ledges .
Roes will be found on the cracks between rocks and if your in an area that hasn’t been hammered look for .....
Cant give it all away lads .
