With the long range forecast looking good, Wednesday morning saw the Merman and I leave town for an overnight adventure to some islands NE of Exmouth. The run out was glassy with tuna schools busting up everywhere and after 1.5 hours we pulled the throttle back and prepared the gear for a spear.
It was going to be a spear trip with maybe some line fishing if we got time but we really just wanted to dive as many spots as possible to load the GPS with reefs for future visits. The GPS now has a lot more blue crosses on it.
We spent the entire day in the water and the Merman was the in form spearo. Biggest trout was 69cm, which I found, he shot then as I was retrieving it out from under the ledge shoved my hand onto a big urchin and got a heap of spines in my mitt. My hand is still swollen.
We ended up with 6 bluebone to 66cm which was a PB for Merman, 2 trout to 69cm, a jack and a few crays. We left heaps of fish and only selectivley shot some for the freezer.
Towards sunset we pulled up into the shallows of an island and knocked the sides off our fish and cracked a coldie to celebrate.
Best view from a cleaning station I've had.
We moved the boat and dropped anchor for the night where the Merman cooked up the most delicious Thai Red Mangrove Jack curry, one of the best meals I've tasted.
The most travelled tupperware in Oz!
Anyway we hit the hay feeling pretty chuffed until 3am when a unforecast 20kt NE wind kicked up (must've had the trainee weather forecaster on that night). The sloppy bouncing meant a pre-dawn shift where a few hours later made the call to head for home while we still had a following sea. 2 hours later and a few wet faces we hit Bundegi to find a big wave surge on the ramp so I dropped Joel off and headed for the marina. That 8nm was pretty testing with 20kts and 1.5m seas on the beam but we got home safe and sound. Add in a million sandfly bites while we skinned the fish at the table to compliment my swollen hand and I'd do it all again tomorrow. The freezer now looks very healthy and the GPS even healthier.

Nice work
Some good quality Baldies there Tim. Weatherman must have taken a stab in the dark with the forecast. All's good that ends well heh!
Got me jealous- can't wait til July we are hitting up the Mackies (Thevenard etc)

Ahh the fins are all good
Ahh the fins are all good now, just a slight hiccup, the rails that it was sent with were apparently for the older style of Immersion foot pockets. The newer ones dont have the T piece. But theyre sweet, I probably coulda gone with the stiffer fin but after a full day of swimming in Spring tides the other day I found sore bits where I havent had them before, as in muscular not rubbage!! Havent been for a deep dive yet, think we were only in max 7-8 metres the other day. I'll reccomend them!! Also found a sweet deal on the pockets so if anyone needs Immersions!! If I've got work off I'm up for a swim!

we ended up doing just over
we ended up doing just over 90nm I think so not too bad. If the weather played ball and we got 2 days fishing in it is really not much at all. $1.78 at the pump hurts a bit though...

Looks like you found one of the trout farms anyway.
Good day out even without the fish.
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?
