hi everyone, went to exmouth over the school holidays went out fishing on blue horizon charters hoping to go out deep sea fishing but only went out of the lighthouse fishing. $500.00 is a lot to pay for my son and myself to pay to go fishing there most charter operators tell you were you are going in close if weather is not favourable so you can cancell if you want this not the case .anybody else have simular problem

I had issues
with a different operator up there last year - will never make that mistake again was a seriously bad experience and not surprisingly, spoke to a few other people who had a "bad" experience so they say with the same charter boat. I should add, these issues do not relate to where we were fishing.

Sad to hear that
I went out on O'Brien in March 07'. Although hardly Sportsfishing (Alvey deckwinches) I had no trouble landing my bag limit which inc. Good Reds and a Hooter Rankin. Even helped a few others on board get there's That day we headed out to a killer drop off in 110m out towards the Murions. certainly wasn't $250 though, $180 from memory.
Shame to hear they've gone downhill.

I would have been happy for deck winches
as it turns out. We ended up with a hand line that looked like it had been lying in someone's shed for 20 years, but the cracker was - it was not rigged with enough lead to hold the bottom and no extra lead on the boat. That would be just one of the days highlights for me! Yep, good old Ningaloo Pearls - what a champ.

What the hell?You paid $250
What the hell?
You paid $250 and only got a handline?
That is insane.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

It was actually $220
and we drove up from coral bay the morning of the charter after being told the afternoon before via a phone call (Coral bay) that the weather was looking great for the next day and it was all go. Get on the boat, and my off sider starts talking to the skip about the huge swell and howling south easterlies and asks the question " Do you think this weather will clean up" to which the reply was "I don't have time to check the weather. who knows" - he then looked at tide book he had in the console and remarked, ahhh where on the spring tides. I could go on all day about the events of that particular day - it was one I'll never forget. Oh and I should say it was suggested to me that i do not need to bring my own gear, as all the rods and good gear was on board - I thought he may have been taking the micky when we got handed our hand lines.

Thats sucks big time
Thats sucks big time Paully,
Last time i stayed in Exy we drove up to Coral Bay and hopped on board with Bernie on the Mahi Mahi,
Had a ball, and bagged out both times we went out.
I have heard nothing but bad reports about the Exmouth Charters

Gday MOB
Yeh, I got to say mate, it really was that disapointing and the thing is we only booked it and drove up there because we couldn't get out with Bernie whilst we were in the bay or even the other charter there (Coral bay). That was certainly our first choice. To be honest mate, I have never felt so ripped in all my life when being provided a service, allegedly - that's why i still think about it now. I have had very little opportunity to go fishing in the last say 18 months, let alone off shore in a boat for different reasons - that made the trip stick in my throat all that more. We all live and learn I guess.
PS I just had a chuckle at your screen name, I used to be referred to as MOB for along while a lot of years ago after i went out the back of a tinny in crab creek near Broome (wasn't funny when it happened). The skipper had no idea until he was another few hundred metres up the creek (literally).
Cheers

Fusion charters
i met a bunch of canadian guys in april (when the comp was on) i was working but they had booked the boat for 4 days
they wernt impressed at the end of the first day for various reasons but the days after they were very happy from
what i can gather they didnt provide what they said they would (the charter not the canadians) and the boys made their
fellings clear after that they were very happy.

mixed reports
Mixed reports on Fusion, when they first came to town they were pretty good. Now they have become pretty slack like the others, even pinged me the other day out at the Rons. Hopefully the new operators do the righty.

Interesting that fishy
after i had got of my charter (and that couldn't have happened soon enough) , I went onto town and spoke with business people there in a particular store - after hearing me talk about the charter with my offsider I was asked who it was and the reply form them was - That would be Ningaloo Pearls or Fusion. It's the little things too that make a difference, like the lunch that was supposed to be supplied - Oh sorry fellas, left the cold meat at home but got some tomato left and a couple of other bits and pieces (didn't phase me I took my own food - thank god). Then on top of that, there was I hope no one has a nut allergy as this home made bread that Ive bought today has nuts in it and guess what - one lady on board just about swelled up at the though of it, she suffered that badly. The question is WHY , would anyone operate like that - It's just not right, easy money for them. At the end of the day he couldn't give a rats #ss about the thoughts of the passengers.
Other little things like gypin the paying guests because there putting to much line/dacron on the floor of the boat when their bringing their line in (on hand lines in 50/60 meters of water) - hello what does he think is going to happen. I'm getting a bit fiery again even now , just thinking about how things went that day.

Ahh!
After the first day these guys said the decky had no clue what to do or what fish was what, they advertised
that lunch would be prepared by their swedish chef maria (or whatever her name was) it wasn't and the skipper made
a burger, in their all in price they where told they would be picked up at the hotel and dropped off afterwards, their fish would be frozen and transported to perth when they got back to the marina the skipper said he didnt know anytthing about freezing and transporting the fish, there was no transport for them and when the skipper made a call he was told to " give em 20 bucks and tell them to get a taxi she was sick" they kicked up a stink then the transport arrived to take them back to the hotel. after that they said it improved. they where told by the skipper he wasnt the owner and he was new. it certainly put me off that charter though. they did say they had good rods and reels though and the youngest guy caught a good size saily the second day too so he was happy.

Gday Patty
I got to be honest mate, I have thought about how i could put a dent in their customer turnover - it made/makes me that angry. I didn't say to much to him at the time, I should have. I knew then that if i did, there was a fair chance it would get overly heated and i didn't want that - I learnt a valuable lesson mate - if I had my time again, he would have no doubt as to how I felt. The other thing for me is , I felt like I let my offsider (brother in law) down who had come over to WA from SA for a fishing holiday, off course I pumped up the Exmouth charter scenario to him after we couldn't get on one in Coral Bay. One thing I did do though is speak at length with the tour/charter agent in Coral Bay about who they were promoting.

2 yrs ago the Better 1/2 and I booked a charter in EXXY
Was told that if the weather sucked he would cancel. No call. Arrived and there was 7 other customers. We all jumped on and headed to the Murion's. Northerly wind and swell from the North. It was rough as, and with some sealegs me and one other stayed fishing. The rest provided ample burley for us, including a Keen as 9yo, who with the boss was already floored before we even dropped a line.
All got back in, but you know what it is like when someone you love is sick on a boat you dont control. There is sweet nothing you can do and you feel hopeless.
Back at the ramp he collected the $500 from the 2 of us, never said sorry for the day, or offered another discounted trip, and nicked off without helping the 2 that got fish to fillet as was the promise. I cant remember who it was but was only a smallish boat.
Now tow the boat down instead.
Wasnt a happy day.

far ken charters..
thats half the reason i bought a boat, i was sick of shit expensive charters and operators that dont give a shit.
we did a couple of exclusives in exxy a few years ago onboard the original ningaloo blue, with geoff the skipper, and wade and leon the young deckies. we were blessed with 5 days of absolutely immaculate conditions, and was blown away with the fishing. we actually pretty much caught our whole possesion limit within the first 2-3 days, and spent the next couple just trollin, relaxing, and drinkin bulk piss. they did everything for us - provide bacon and eggs at the house for brekky, pick us up in the bus and take us to the boat, filleted all our fish, provided morning tea AND a kick arse fresh fish and cold meat lunch. hell they even baited our hooks if we wanted. by far the best charter i have been on, or ever will.
they sold it to the sea venture boys, and we did another trip when neil and brad first got up there. they didnt really know how to fish the area, but they still tried hard, and we got some good fish. service was still good.
that was 2003 (i think), and every charter i go on now, i swear to never go on a charter boat again. they never provide enough food, service is always shit, get absolutely pissed off that i have to spend half my time untangling lines with 18 other carnts after some clown hooks a sambo and doesnt know how to land it. a mate of mine actually gave a skipper some coordinates on one trip, just so he could go home with some fish.
i reckon there should almost be a board or commitee to regulate how they are run, and filter the crap ones out of the equasion. $500 for paully and his boy, aint chicken feed. for that price, i would want a naked chick to crack my beers at the same time.

I hear you Scotto
for the record, for me and my offsider it was $440.00 - Might as well thrown it in the wind. The OP paid $500.00 for his trip. I will be very careful who I go with in future if I ever go down that path again. Cheers
