fake reels?

hey guys.
i was down at my local tackle shop a few days ago and a bloke came in to spool his 2500 FA stella.
upon inspection, the shop owner discovered some inconsistancies with his reel.
at first the paint on the reel was a little off, then upon closer inspection more and more inconsistencies were discovered, the reel handle, internal machanics, etc.
after informing the owner of the stella, the owner told us he always wondered why he got it for only $450 brand new.
anyone else had such experiences??

Fake Internal mechanics? Did
Fake Internal mechanics? Did they pull the thing apart? I doubt fake Stellas exist. Thats a hell of a reel to TRY and copy without it looking like an obvious fake. Buyer must've been a complete idiot in my opinion.

I think it would be quite
I think it would be quite hard to copy with the same end result, but considering it may only have to look like one, targetting a very high reel would mean they could get a lot more for it = more profitable.
Would be really interesting to see some pictures.
A very odd result in google. I tried "counterfeit reel" and it came up with this post, but it highlighted "fake". WTF? Google must assume the two terms are the same?

wouldn't surprise me at all.
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Guys,
I have lived and worked in China and can tell you right now they copy Stellas and everything including Rolls Royce cars. Some things are very hard to tell apart. Copied Rolex watches made of solid gold just with cheaper internals. Seen it all in China. Buyer beware!

online buying?
maybe he purchase it from online shop and when they ship out another thing instead
possible as u dont know what they will send.
i did purchase once from japan online store, but they sent me another reel instead.
i was so angry that i call them up direct as my reel is limited edition and not the normal one.
ask me to pay for the freight to return it so they can send the limited edition one to me.
do i have a choice for their error ?
the difference in price is about AUD200.
You will never fish alone when i am around
