Fess up to getting Bogged

Time for all of the fishos who haunt the beaches to fess up to getting bogged big time.

Mine was while pro fishing down round fromAugusta at Dead Finish, where the pro boats moor and unload Was 0500 in an early Hilux that someone had chucked a twin carb celica donk in it, it would rev well but had bugger all down low. Was towing the dinghy with 200 litre of fuel in containers plus about 50kg of ice, zipped down the beach and was about to dow a hard lefty to line the boat up with the only weed free patch of water when one bigger wave dumped what seem like 20 tonne of weed on to the trailer and with the sudden extra weight the engine died instantly, restarted and 1 st low , could,t even spin a wheel.

Unhooked the trailer and one decky managed to get the dinghy off and out to clear water but the trailer was completely buried in weed. Restarted again and peak revs and drop the clutch in low range in reverse, nothing, not even one wheel spun.

We managed to clear the trailer of weed and drag it up the beach but the poor Lux was getting a salt water bath.

Managed to get the boss on the phone after a 1/2 mile walk up the hill and he told us to go fishing and he would sort it out while we were gone.

Called the dinghy back in to collect us and we went out to pull the gear and return some 6 hours later to find that they had only just finished getting it out. 4 landcruisers and  200 metres of rope strung through the bush to the only straight section of track for them to get a run up. The bloke who hopped in the Lux said there was waves breaking over the top of it and one turn of the key and away it went.

When the boss had driven down he'd got his mate to bring my nissan down, just as well because we'd had a top day and filled it and some in to the bosses ute as well.

We drove the Lux round to the servo in Augusta and dropped it in for the mechanic to drain all the oils and check what else needed doing.

Dropped in for the verdict next arvo and he said the donk was that close to dying before I got to it and the bogging had killed it properly so it was hook a rope on and tow it home to Yallingup and drop a 186 in on the next set of rough days when we couldn't fish

 Couple of weeks ago. Headed

Mon, 2012-10-29 05:21

Couple of weeks ago. Headed out for a barra fish. Flats were a little wetter than I thought they were going to be. Got most of the way in and found the track to be impassable. Was halfway through turning around when I slipped off the hard part of the track.

$70 at the car wash and a carton of Coronas to the mate that came and got me.

Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Ha ha it's a rite of passage

Ha ha it's a rite of passage to get bogged. I've had mine down to the axles on a beach launch cause I left the trailer brakes on (I front end launch) the recovery car went down too lol in the end lauched the boat on the beach and got it to the water on inflatable rollers. All good fun and learning curve.

Wilbinga Hilux

Mon, 2012-10-29 08:07

Probably rusted away by now but a mate was cruising home towards Two Rocks along 100 metres off the beach  from pulling his pots when they spotted 3 blokes waving madly from the beach. One of the swam out and asked if he could get a ride back with them because their ute had got bogged and was now in the drink with only just part of the roof visible. They had been able to get their gear and generator off but unable to stop it getting washed in after it bogged and the waves started to wash it in.

By the time they reached Two Rocks, unloaded, put the crayboat away and drove up along the tracks it had gone completely and wasn't visible anywhere ---not insured either , the crew loaded their gear up and left the dual cab Hilux to its fate.

Never heard anyone finding it washing up so its out there somewhere.

Drove north from broome along the coast as far as we could go. Decided to try and cut accross some mud to find beach access. Was going walking speed then JUST broke through the crust, was ok until I tried to reverse and within half a wheel rotation was down. Spend about 2 hours burying the spare tyre and hand winching the barstard bacwards in 40 degree heat. It was going backwards and even deeper until I realised I'de left the handbrake on NOB-HEAD. At that moment some queenslanders happened by and winched us out. The guy's winch was buried behind his bumber with sharp edges everywhere so by the time we were done he was dripping blood everywhere, felt really bad about it, but good karma to him wherever he is.

Pretty simple really. Road cars with low profile tyres and lowered suspension dont go well on sand. Even with all wheel drive.

Hamelin bay ramp

Mon, 2012-10-29 20:19

A well known bald headed crayfisherman was launching his fuel up dinghy just next to the Hamelin bay ramp at 0500 in the middle of May when its lovely and cold. His clutch was a bit dicky but stoll operab le, until then, the ute got stuck and the decky was forced to sit in it, idling in gear, windows up  with waves breaking over the tray, it looked good!! Headlights still on shining underwater.

Wetried with my ute and succeeded in snapping the snatch strap, then got the salmon pocket rope out and nearly ran into the bottom of the cliff when someone elses attempt at a bowline failed.Hooked 2 utes together and gave it 3=4 goes without moving it an inch.

Then one of the salmon crews arrives with a big set of block and tackle, my ute plus another as anchor points while the salmon fisherman took off down the beach with about 7-8 blokes on the back for extra whallop, he got as far as he could then deliberately bogged it in to keep a strain on the ute that was getting a real pasting by the waves now. Two big waves came through after about ten minutes and the ute popped out like a cork from a bottle, still dry inside but water and weed running off the tray.

We launched our dinghy and I lent the crayfisherman my ute to use because we were going to shift round to Dead Finish by Augusta and were getting pick up so didn't need it. Off we went out to the moored shark boat to get ready to set sail.

While all this was happening on the beach, the crayfisherman had refueled his boat but was unable to empty half the fuel in the dinghy leaving it sloshing about in the 800 litre built in tank under the dinghy floor, he'd stuck his baskets of cray in and was heading in to unload them on the ramp. Once he got close he  had to turn side on to the waves and this caused the fuel to s;op to one side and over she went tipping 14 crates of crays in the drink, they ended up losing 3 baskets with the lids coming off  worth a rough total of $1500 plus a clutch and pressure plate and labour, not a good day for them but good for a laugh for us.

my first jeep, 18 years old

my first jeep, 18 years old and hungover

Was heading for a surf in two rocks years ago and decided to access the beach, everything went well until the hard left closer to the edge to get a run up to get out. hit a soft patch of sand/weed and the car just sunk with the rear bumper touching sand.

Called a mate who was still in perth but not in any state to drive, took him 3 hours to arrive, spent an hour or so digging and 2 hours surfing. Dropped down to 8-10 PSI and was snatched out.

Only other funny one was borrowing my mums pulsar and taking the access track down between two rocks wilbinga in search of waves. bottomed out on a hill and spent the next few hours diggin until a mate showed up for a tow.

  Yesterday lunchtime ,

Yesterday lunchtime ,  Bogged to the axles at the Bremmer launch ramp.  Had to unhook the trailer, get the prado out, refloat the boat, recover the trailer, drag the boat up the sand a bit onto the trailer. Provided entertainment for a few persons at the ramp, many thanks to the two gentlemen who assisted. A lot of work for one leagle snapper, had a fillet for lunch,  was worth the effort

Laugh at Coral bay

Fri, 2012-11-09 20:26

Was on the beach watching people launch their boats when a woman driving a new statesman went too far back and drowned the back of the car, there were two kids about 8-9 standing about watching the lady get stuff out of the boot fand back seat before they got completelt drowned. I told them to give granny a hand  to get the stuff out.

Was at the shop next day and the two kids spotted me and one said to the other "look, there's the man who called mum, granny" Had to have a laugh at that, but she appeared to not give a shirt about the car getting drenched----probably a lease or hire car.

sounds like the hilux are the way to go if you want to get bogged. lol.

I can honestly i have never been bogged in a 4x4 on the beach or anywhere else. altho i have bogged a truck once or twice . have seen some beauties over the years, the worst i have seen was i think  from memory an old landy down south, it was bogged in mud half way up the doors, they had to get a backhoe to dig it out

Sank, not bogged

Sun, 2012-11-11 10:30

A mate of mine was on an expedition to contact an aboriginal group in the Kimberlies years back, the camped at what they thought would be a safe spot up on a bank with the two cruisers on the river bank well away from the actual creek bed.

When they woke up all that was left of one was a corner of the roof and radio aerial  sticking out and the other one was at the bottom of window height where they had broken through the hard crust of the bank and sunk into the mud during the night.

I couldn't help myself from laughing at the photos even knowing that they were taken some hundreds of miles from help.

Luckily they were able to radio for help from the part submerged one but still had to stay there for another 4 days till both vehicles were freed from the mire.
