Finally a size Dhu!
Submitted by Swompa on Sat, 2023-04-01 17:12
Did 40 miles today in a mates boat. Threw my guts up from 8 until 12.
All forgotten when we got a size Dhu on the boat!
Naturally, because I am not a moron, it swam away with assistance from a release weight.

A funny post I wonder
A funny post
I wonder though, how many people will consider keeping a fish this small?
We all know that there is an element amongst us that keep EVERYTHING.
While the vast majority of us have enough integrity to not keep something like that, Dickhead Punch has now made it legal........
Just saying......

Eyes
By the looks of the popped eyes that fish is probably gonna die anyway, this fish is why the new rules have been put in place !
My spots are so secret even the fish don't know about them !

It was the 6th fish following wrasse so I wasn't expecting anything other unfortunately. We did apply a release weight and didn't see it float up so hopefully it was ok.

Headed out to the fish towers
Headed out to the fish towers south of Rotto. 700mm YTK (my first one) on the first drop which was pleasing and then a little bluefin tuna (pretty sure it was) - another first - when trolling between spots. Saw a few free jumping around.
Mate managed a small pinky out there.
Moved back into 20m at the back of the 5 (so i could cook brekkie at 12:00) and managed 5 wrasse and the baby dhu.
Best fishing I have done since Ningaloo in June last year.
I found the YTK to be quite decent.

Appreciate the humour in your post but for me, I'm feeling a bit dispondent about these new rules, I can't help but think that WA fishos have been presented with a noose to hang themselves with and sure as shit they're not going to miss the opportunity to do it. I hope I'm wrong but I see Dhu numbers declining under these new rules and a total demersal ban coming in at some point in the future, who knows perhaps that's the end objective here.

The thing is the bone would
The thing is the bone would be pointed squarely at DPIRD and the minister involved for absolute incompetance. But your right I'm getting an uneasy feeling with all the pics I'm seeing plastered over social media etc.

I do agree with you. I had
I do agree with you. I had joked that we would get a 10cm dhu on the weekend.
Had I been certain that it would have died I would have kept it, but it was still kicking around a bit so hope it was able to swim away with the release weight in its gob.
