First crack at jigging in Pohnpei
Took the boat out for some trolling, with the plan to dive and jig at the closest atoll while the sun was at its highest. Didn't even get a sniff in a combined three hours of trolling.
Had an absolute awesome dive though with about 40 metres of vis. A million different fish, great cave with fan coral and I scored a massive conch shell (what the islanders used to use as vocal horns). Spewen I didn't take the underwater case for the camera - next time.
Best part of the day for me was the fishing. I hadn't tried jigging at any length before today but decided today was a bait free day. The local that I went out with laughed at me as he dropped his baited hook. First drop of the jig a little Coral Trout jumped on. A little later I caught a nice Napoleon Wrasse and then a Brown-Marbled Grouper. None of them were big fish but it was definately another first. First time I caught all three fish and on a jig makes it even better. In case you're wondering my local friend didn't catch a fish on bait all day.

Hey nice work, I wish I got anything the first couple of times I went jigging, Sgt Bakers don't count!
Is that a little zest? They're nice and cheap to boot, so you don't have to sweat their loss.

Zest
Yeah Mate. Pretty sure it's a little zest. Threw the packet away before moving over. There isn't any markings on it. Ask Chinny the next time your at Oceanside, he'll know for sure.

excellent colours
The best thing about jigging there I guess is you just never know whats going to jump on next. That would be exciting enough for me.

Hi Soupster,
I think that is the smallest Napolean Wrasse I have ever seen on a jig or popper! Have you seen the sizes they grow up to?
