first fish on my new PE1.5 outfit

Went out from mandurah yesterday in very ordinary conditions with my  best maye Paul, AKA Decrais. Decided to give a smaller jig a crack on my new outfit as the fish seemed a little shut down. I remember thinking to myself just as my jig hit the bottom this will be interesting if I hook something decent. Sure enough seconds later bang I was hooked up. After about 5 minutes of feeling like I had barely budged whatever I had hooked it decided to make a move taking a heep od line. As the line angle increased I started to get concerned I was gunna get rubbed of as the ground was a little knarly. We decided to start the boat and pursue the fish trying to improve the angle. I got real lucky as there was a point when it felt like it had me in the reef. I backed of the tension for about 5 seconds and fortunately he came out. I started to put as much hurt on the fish as I thought my outfit could handle but the whole time wondering if my line was damaged from the reef. Eventually I managed to get him turned and get him to the boat. Epic battle

Always great to get a big one...

Wed, 2014-12-31 11:32

...and so much more enjoyable doing it the "hard" way! If you'd skulldragged that on 80 lb bottom bouncing gear, the story would not have been nearly as interesting...for you or anyone reading it!

Certate 3000 on a Laith Rickman custom PE 1.5 rod

Jig was a haoli something or other haha in gold and orange glow 110gms

Probably my least favourite jig in my bag but my best mate paul known as ( Dcrais) dropped another huge  fish earlier on a orange glow vexed jig. He is new to jigging but has had some big dhuies on the line but for one reason or another hasnt managed to stay connected.  Stay tuned for his post of a 20kg dhuie real soon

Great to watch.

It was great to watch you battle that fish on that outfit Dean!...I hadn't realised you changed outfits, remember asking how the new mytho was feeling and you looked at me and said you were on the new PE 1.5 outfit!....Great fish bud and another great day out on OnStrike...albeit in pretty average conditions but still very fishable.

Yeah hopefully one of those big buggers will stay connected sooner or later...dropping that first fish due to my fg knot slipping was pretty sad and getting reefed by that second even bigger Dhu was pretty amazing stuff..oh well it'll happen....Cheers bud.

Awesome capture on any gear

Mon, 2015-01-05 22:07

Awesome capture on any gear mate - even moreso on the light stuff. Great work!

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Great fish and superb capture on the underpowered gear. When it stripped some line you must have thought sambo etc. Not often dhu's peel line.

Sambo

Thu, 2015-01-08 09:39

Yeah cransy  there was moments where I thought it might of been a sambo but even though it was taking drag it wasn't the characteristic fight of a sambo, more heavy weight slower thumps on the rod and very hard to move in the first five minutes
