Fish gutting table

Decided to build my own fish gutting table so got an old barbie off the verge, bought a sink at the salvage shop and the end result was this!

Very nice work indeed. That will keep the missus happy that you have your own sink to mess up.. How do you plan to capture waste water and scales etc???

There is a pipe attached with a 1.5 m hose. Plan is to either empty it directly into the drain or into a bucket and then dispose of in the garden. Now that you mention scales I might get one of those sieve type plugs so I can catch them when the water drains out.

mate, go to the pool shop and get a packet of small pool filter socks and cable tie one to the end of your drainage hose and you will then catch all the crap before it goes down the drain.

chopping board

nice setup,  might be worth getting a couple of those 3mm plastic chopping boards to sit on your stainless when your using your knife to reduce the blunting it will get from the sink, nice and cheap too

I have marine ply screwed to an ironing board which is great for bigger/longer fish like mackies but your feet get wet and I cant control the runoff

You got a covering on the marine ply rig or did you just cut it to size and start using it?

How does it grip too?  I reckon it would be better than stainless steel where you get the fish sliding all over the place?

sealant

I actually painted it with sealant to it would splinter less and the smell wouldnt soak into it ben.  I also use those very thin chopping boards on top of it so my knives stay very sharp.

due to this the grip is pretty good its about 1300long x 800 of ply

Pm me your email address Ben and I can send you a pic if it helps.  Same goes for anyone else.

not to take anything away from flat sticks as his looks nicer in the backyard,  I made mine so I could fold it up and take it away on trips, lays down on the boat or roof rack nice and flat.  I live in a town house so don't have heaps of storage

That's a great idea, thanks mate. How would y secure the chopping boards to the stainless steel?

Secure

I would personally leave them loose so it's easier to clean and if your scaling you would possibly just do it on the stainless and leave the chopping boards clean until your cutting fillets etc.  they shouldn't slide around too much

I like the BBQ install idea.

I went to the trouble of making a frame for my setup. Also installed an under sink electric hot water system. They sell them at bunnings. Good for helping wash up with hot water outside, you just run an extension cord and a hose to the mixing tap on the sink.

local tip

Thu, 2013-10-03 06:48

My local tip (stirling) has heaps of sinks etc stacked up, think they are free.  You could actually get all the materials you need to build it there if you look around.  I think there would be a few of those BBQ stands also just might need a bit of TLC

not me

Not me pale ale, I dont wash my fillets at all, if the fish are bled and you dont pierce the stomach there should be no reason to.

Anything I scale like whiting they scales usually stick together in the slime and just wipe off, although those days should be numbered since I bought a scaler bag
