That last link doesn't seem to work. Here is the link to the whole page on Fishes of Australia about the blavck sand bass. https://fishesofaustralia.net.au/Home/species/4644 . On that page there are 3 photos of the species and the middle one looks just like your catch.
Kept a couple nice flesh, pretty delicate lightly crumbed comes up good. I remember the first one I caught I legit thought I caught the southernmost Barra hahah
Known as night barra when I lived in Darwin, quite a common bycatch up there and they seem to be plentiful everywhere i have travelled around the NT and WA.

On the fishes of Australia there are 3 photos of the sand bass. The distribution map shows them mostly n in the warmer coastal arras. The middle photo here https://fishesofaustralia.net.au/Images/Image/PsammopWaigiensBillMark.jpg looks a lot like yours
