hi guys, today i went to the fresh water part of the canninging river for a picnic with the family and i dicided to bring a small net and i caught these. what type of fish is it? cichled?

it is a geophagus braselliensis
and yes it is a Chiclid

Think it may be a chichilid (dont rely on my spelling) but not sure if theyre a freshwater fish

Nothing, most shops won't even sell them anymore. They are becoming a real pest. Apparently they are good to eat tho .

Yep, definitely a Cichlid, and definitely an invasive pest. Maybe call the local council and tell them where you caught it? I suspect they already know but can't hurt?

i also caught over 5 1cm

If you (or anyone else) catch these fish, you should report it to FishWatch (1800 815 507).
You should also keep and dispose of them (it's illegal to let them go).
