Would just like to congratulate all involved in the no to fish traps in the Gascoyne issue,
just heard on the radio that they Won't be Allowed.
Well done to all!

Yay
Thats awesome.. It's the first time I've got off my bum and written to someone about an issue. To have a result like this makes you think there is some good still going down in today's society.

Kim Chance on ABC northwest
Kim Chance on ABC northwest radio yesterday sprouting what's the problem, they only have 130 tonne of bicatch to go with the pinky quota!! But the quota for bicatch was set by fisheries with trapping was 228 tonnes!!! Kim was either flat out telling porkies on radio, or just plain ignorant which makes me wonder just how competent some of these guys are at managing this delicate fishery we have up here!
The rec fishers and charter boats up here combined together, take less than 50 tonne altogether, then fisheries have the nerve to say in the annual report, this area is medium to high risk of over fishing, then try and sneak in an extra 100 tonne for the pros? WTF? They Cut the rec quotas down til it's almost not worth the fuel to go out to the islands just to catch 3-5 fish (but we love it so we do) saying its under to much pressure, but then sneak in an EXTRA 2 TIMES the total rec catch for the year and just hand it to the pro's!
I smell BS!!

Iam lead to believe the minister is an ex profisher
I was told that the minister was at one time a pro fisher himself, my be a bit biased in his decision.
If you believe what the papers are saying come the front bench reshuffle he may be looking for another job.

Fisheries now trying to
Fisheries now trying to appoint a mediator between rec and pros to come to an agreement!!
ffs we don't want it!! Why do fisheries want to let the pros trap so badly?
I wish they would put their honest truth on the line WHY!

Time to send a message
Get in touch with yr local pollie.. ask them what their stance is on this issue and then send them a direct message according to how they reply. Nothing works better than fear. . Sad but true!

Local Pollie
Local pollie got the message early that his job was on the line if he backed the trap proposal and did a magnificent job in being involved with the protest.
The ones who want it are big wetline operator all the way down the coast with 7 vessels I think, so a fair bit of pressure made to bear on the fisheries to let the traps happen.
