Fished with a guy today

His name on the site is chris fish What a great guy and knows alot of stuff about fishing

Great with his over head reel and rod,  Sliding baits out for big fish

and a great 4x4 well set up to go anywere

The reason for this post is, ????He showed jeffree and myself his photos on his i phone Some great fish /sharks rays /mulloway/ Big Big tailor the list goes on

Now he did put some photos up on the site a while back,  But got slagged saying the mulloway was not as big as he said it was

So no more photos from this young lad,   Which is a shame

All we need is you guys to watch what you say, Cos there is more people on this site that wont post any more

And in the end its us that miss out on some great shots of great fish

Chris great to meet you, Lets do it again soon

sherbie

Well said

Tue, 2012-02-21 20:47

Well said Sherbs.

I'm sure a lot more pics would be put up if as you say, they weren't going to get a bagging because

1 They didn't guess the weight right

2 They didn't know what it was before putting it in the esky

3 They used 300lb line to catch a herring and it wasn't considered sporting.

Etc etc and so on, not all of us have skin as thick as an elephants hide and can give as good as we receive. If you want to criticize someones catch fair enough but don't play the man , play the ball as the saying goes.

i think you got that right.

Tue, 2012-02-21 20:48

i think you got that right. too many times people have been bagged out becaus of a fish or their days catch. not good sportsmanship.my feel is if you feel the fish isnt as big as you say or you stuck to your bag limit just let it be.dont bag out someone for putting up a pic to share

weights

Tue, 2012-02-21 21:02

Why bother putting up weights all it does is create contention as to how big it really is - and we all know what fishermen are like when it comes to 'it was thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis big'

Just put up a photo of a fish and say, this is my catch and I'm bloody stoked about it!  Saves any problems anyway.. (not that you should have to, but just saves the hassle)

Think the Barramundi boys

Tue, 2012-02-21 23:06

Think the Barramundi boys have it right by going by the length of the fish with a pic of it on a brag mat. Weights of fish can vary so greatly but a measured length is hard to dispute. :)

Yep can say that again

Tue, 2012-02-21 21:16

Yep can say that again Sherbert. I'm fairly new to this site, mainly joined as I enjoy fishing and most things associated with it (even some of the tall fishy tails) thats all part of fishing. I can't believe a lot of the negative comments and antagoniztic attitude some members have toward people they have never met. I was brought up with the saying IF YOU HAVEN'T GOT SOMETHING GOOD TO SAY DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL   Some of the recent topics are evidence in themselves

Message to Chris fish   Chin up fella hope ya start posting ya catches again.

Sherbert I can only hope people take note  cheers for speaking up for Chris

Thanks

Tue, 2012-02-21 22:00

Cheers sherbie, was great to get out for a fish and a good change to doing it on my own for countless hours. I will do a post soon on some things I've caught just a bulk load of photos got over 100 good photos to choose from from just the last years efforts, have got photos of countless metro tailor over 50cm, few mulloway but have recently been targeting just sharks with 12 landed in the last 2 months alone. Was fun to get some tailor on the lures today and a couple of big rays. Did you get anything on the balloons after I left??

Thanks again just is annoying when you put up a photo that your proud of and 100 keyboard warriors pay out on it for some reason or another not just my photos but I see it all the time with others. Fishing to me is getting out there and enjoying myself. I may only catch tailor for baits but I still respect people who get out there and enjoy themselves and had fun catching it cause to me that's what it's all about. Who cares if your chasing whiting and herring or marlin don't we all fish for the same reason in the end???

i totaly agree with what sherbs has writen here ... i fish countless hours with chris and yes the boy can fish but let me tell you he does not exadurate the weights at all he is probably as honest as it gets..... And yes i do think it is sad that people need to put down others captures perhaps to make them self feel beter ? I dont really know but gee if you dont have nothing nice to say the say nothing at all, kinda like the tiger i got the other week that seems to had found its way on here , sure i couldnt post at the time to speak of its real size but even if i could why would i bother when there were people telling nelly a guy who was there how big the shark actually was. We all have to remember a camera can make a 4 kg dhuie look 12 kg depending on photographer but at the same time a bad photo can make it look half its actual size.

Good on ya Sherbs, I have seen Pic's from Chris and also thought he got a raw deal on his post. In saying that it was just a small few who made negative comments and they don't reflect what most members think.

I hope that after the house keeping by Adam in the last week some of these members are no longer on this site, and we should see more positive responses in the future.

Yup as said, one guy doesn't reflect the whole community.  Theres always one that wants to ruin it for others.  I'm looking to see if I can get an 'ignore' button built in so you can just place people on ignore so you don't have to see certain people's posts, not sure if it will work, but will investigate.

Unbelievable

Fri, 2012-02-24 16:59

Some people need  to take a long hard look at themselves.

Ignore the negative comments Chris some people are far too opinionated to ever admit they are wrong so despite not being there when the fish was caught or weighed they still question your integrity.

I should know, I've had a few people claim some pretty wild things to try and upset me over the years. A classic being that 2 x 10+kg dhuies I caught in successive drops a year or so ago and took a vid of me releasing one using a bridled weight added to the release weight, as the release weight on its own wasn't big enough to get the fish down. I thought it would be good to show people how to add the weight to the release weight for the bigger fish. So whilst I did a vid of it and posted it up here some people on other sites started suggesting I faked the release and had actually necked both fish just to attack my credibility because I was a moderatoor on a site they were booted off from. People have some strange motives out there and whilst they are a very small minority they do tend to spoil it for the rest of us.

At the end of the day who cares if a fish is 10kgs 15kgs or 18.75kgs if its a nice fish and you are proud of it post it up and be congratulated for your fishing abilities rather than your weight estimating abilities. And for people who get off at the expense of others,,, get a life.

Great to see you met up with Sherbs, he is a legend... but just one thing... next time make sure you stay with him the whole night as sometimes he forgets where he lives and needs people to make sure he gets home safe... he is that old!!!

I can say that because I need the same help too sometimes... what day is it?... where did I put my keys?... jeez I'm catching up to you sherbs!!!  51 this year

doubt it........

doubt it........I need a laugh occasionally.
Unlike some I understand this is a public forum and know what comes with it.

Considering many people I know agree on that post, and one in particular who has caught more mullas that this whole thread has had hot dinners I'm confindent in my own opinions from my own experience and thats all I care. I remember it so well, coz i was spoken about among a few people I fish with.
If people can't accept my opinion and advice, then their loss. Considering this forum see's only <1% of my catches and i've been fishing since I was 4, my experience is substantial and i think thats enough for me to make my own judgement call if I so wish. I'll leave it at that...i don't think it needs further discussion.

guess i missed all the action....pity.

listen to you talk your self up! why dont you come back to earth for a minute. it doesnt matter what was said by anyone pictures lie unless you seen the fish in real life you can never really  tell the weight of a fish! yes you can have an opinion and someone with your (substantial) knowledge should also no the weight can differ between a fat and thin fish at the same lenght and a fish can also look alot smaller due to the size of the bloke holding it!  it amazes me that you think your opinion on its weight is needed a simple nice fish mate will do! if he says it weighed that well big deal if he is lying its only to please himself! and by the sounds of sherbs he isnt a bullsh#tter. i like the way you say we only see 1% of your catch is that so we would think you catch plenty?? cause to me it just sounds like your talking yourself up again. its know it alls like you who kill this site

Agree totaly, Your arrogance is why you will continue to get negative responses to your comments, Not every one give a sh%t about "calibrated Scales " or the exact weight of a fish .

You are aloud to comment on a post but to continualy enforce your point of veiw is anoying. What about "agreeing to disagree" and moving on with life .

fish weights

Tue, 2012-02-28 13:19

I have not used scales in years , used to weigh everything while on the competive scene , but even that has stopped. Just measure correctly and use the conversion tables .... these are south african tables so not all the same species that are caught here will be in there. The common species caught here , but with different names over there tailor = shad, mulloway = dusky cob. what every one calls a bronzie here(lb) are grey sharks.(metro based)

When measuring fish its from tip to tip, sharks are from nose to precaudal (the notch before the tail starts on the shark, sex makes a big difference so get that right),rays are wing to wing(needs to be done underneath the ray and not over the top)

These tables are an estimate of the fish caught and yes there might be a few grams out either way, but who cares as we fish for fun not sheep stations.

CF's mulloway of 120cm would be 18.4kg according to the table.

It takes us back to the core of this problem

Tue, 2012-02-28 14:53

Who the F#@$ really cares? It's a nice fish regardless. Personally I will never give a weight for the reason this post has gone the way it has. It's about length and appreciation by others of achievement. Boaties will often joust over weight but you don't hear a lot of commentary about the weight of a Tailor. You don't hear a lot about weights of Barra either. It's about measurement of length. Again who really gives a shit? If someone puts up a godd pic and it seems legit let's just appreciate the fact that it has been posted.
