Fishery Officers Bust (Brag) Thread

Couldn't find one? soo...

Just seen this on FB while searching Google - undersize crabs at herron point - www.facebook.com/CrabWatchWA/photos/a.1566948030209017.1073741829.1566602573576896/1702478726655946/

While I'm at it (what I was searching for) Is crabbing allowing in Warnbro Sound at the moment?

 Good stuff. We scooped down

Sat, 2016-01-02 18:42

Good stuff. We scooped down at Yunderup a few days ago for a zero return of sized crabs. That didn't seem to deter the many, many other scoopers who appeared to be taking everything that they saw, sized or not. It's bloody shameful.

Made a call to Fisheries but they can't be everywhere all the time.

Young bloke & I camped on Meeyip point last Monday, all night though to ~4:30am we were woken by loud non engrish speaking people with bright leds scooping right along the Nairns/Coodanup bank.

Perfect time not to get busted

Heron Point

Sat, 2016-01-02 19:14

we crabbed there two days ago for 6 size and numerous undersized .

They will plead can't read etc........ Bet they had no trouble with the centrelink forms.

Must be the bad light as I can't quite see the white skin.

Lets see what they actually get fined

ohhh...... Forgot to mention that fisheries are pro active

on the road into Heron Point There is an illuminated trailer flashing a sign that states  127 mm is the minimum size for crabs and also states the catch limit per person.

so..... No excuses in my book

Like most things the deterent isn't tough enough, they should lose all their gear and be a min fine ~1k first offence (no excusses), 3.5k for 2nd offence, keep scaling it up, if they can't afford the fine they start losing possessions

Still been frustratingly searching this whole time, on the maps/info etc it shows Cockburn & Warnbro as seperate identities, can't find any reference that Warnbro is part of the ban.

Thought I may have been able to squid & crab up there but looks like its just squiding at the sound for my boy

What a blessing, when you see bastards taking every crab in sight it never ceases to amase me how quick people shout at you, "you are not allowed to take my picture without my permission". Pigs arse I'm not, it is quite a sobering thought that their photo my end up in the paper along with the story of being caught with a load of under size crabs. And I tell them that.

Bit of a porky pie I know but it makes a few of them tip what they have in their bucket back in the water. All be it to float belly up.

I have to say it is not all people from countries north of Australia involved in the taking of under size crabs, there has been a few occasions of late when it is young (18 - 25 year olds) who have got bored with not catching size crabs so they amuse themselves by playing lacrosse with the crabs which mashes them up to the amusement of their tiny minds

When challenged about this activity (in all the cases of late) the aggravation and hostility light goes on quick smart A quick phone call to Fisheries and them a strategic retreat is the smart move then.

To take it further is to put ones health at risk from these spaced out or pissed drop kicks.

 Warnbro is open to crabbing

Sun, 2016-01-03 11:41

Warnbro is open to crabbing as far as I'm aware (Fisheries site), also there was a pro boat fishing in Warnbro the other week dropping pots. The link below is for the rule book and clearly states the rules in various languges so no excuses what so ever for under size and over  the limit.

Fisheries are very active in

Mon, 2016-01-04 12:48

Fisheries are very active in the Peel harvey. Got boarded by the nice Niadd they have. Very nice male and female fisheries officers. Checked the pots and gear, measured crabs and all good.

Then also got checked back at the ramp incidentally a day latter. Again all nice.

They did mention a sort of holiday blitz down here and has nabbed a fair few, but mostly small pety stuff like one slightly undersize etc.

After the Niadd stopped us they must have checked everyone of the 20odd boats we could see - Good job.

I reckon 99% of people in boats would be doing the right thing.

I'd rather see their valued minimal time better spent in plain clothes scooping along the shorelines, having a nosey in others buckets.

An old bloke at work (~70)

Mon, 2016-01-04 18:53

An old bloke at work (~70) has lived around the Estury all his life (can tell some tales) was saying it wasn't that long ago he and his wife would camp weekends at Heron and be the only ones there.

He went there on the weekend and reckon it was hard to get a parking spot, people everywhere, reckons the Forrest Hwy has made it too easy for people to get there.

Said he always wears his gauge on a line arround his neck, said a few non english asked him what it was/doing with it, they had no idea, he showed them and they threw them back.

As said previously there's not enough promotion/education, obviously some don't care though.

 I'm only 32 and I remember

Tue, 2016-01-12 18:48

I'm only 32 and I remember as a teenager (less than 20 years ago) camping at Herron Point with my family and there was maybe another 3 or 4 groups there. Mostly people taking their horses for a swim. Easily picked up the bag limit of big crabs. Went down there a couple of years ago with my kids to show them what I did growing up and the campground was packed, couldn't find a size crab to save my life and the whole experience was a great disappointment to be honest. Nothing like it used to be. And used to be wasn't all that long ago....

Fisheres getting a few more recently.

Apparently two more too on charges of 'interfering with a net or trap or other gear used for fishing'
sounds like pot pullers?

 Some good Aussie names

Tue, 2016-01-12 22:11

Some good Aussie names amoungst them...

"The maximum penalty for anyone taking crabs under 127mm is $5000" (What a joke!)

"62 undersized blue manna crabs" "fine $600 each plus costs and an additional penalty of $3100"

And how many times they done it without being caught, prob back down there tonight getting more soup chowder ingredients

"Kapua" sounds Kiwi, should know better

"Andrew Michael Collyer and Aaron Edwin Pollard" are a couple of mid 30's locals, Definately know better (wonder if their FW members?)

Personally think those fines

Wed, 2016-01-13 07:32

Personally think those fines were too soft. There was clear intent and arguably a commercial quantity. The maximum fine should be the minimum to really discourage though if people don't even have a gauge, would it work?

Wonder if the fines even covered the daily wage of those that attended?
