FISHING LICENCES

i was told by some people at work that no matter how many people with fishing licences you have on your boat there is a maximum of 2 bags that can be taken anyone know if this is correct or is it 1 bag per licence as in 4 licences 4 bags

bags - wtf?

Tue, 2010-03-02 20:08

Bag limits or boat limits maybe? This is the last time I am putting in a bloody link to the fisheries website ever.

http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/docs/pub/RecFishArrange/index.php

For gods sakes learn how to read. The only thing that has changed today is a new licence which you pretty much need if you are even _thinking_ of throwing a hook off a boat in the next 12 months, if not years. The bag limits came into effect months ago with the end of the demersal ban.

I think Chinese Whispers is to blame.  You gotta stop playing these silly office games!  I heard you can only catch 1 dhuie per licence but if you buy 5 licences, you are allowed to catch 5 dhuies yourself???  LOL.

but what if you got five different names...lol

Does it count also if you have multiple personalities? ...lol

ok, jokes aside. Office advise is deadly and I'm seeing it here with many FIFO guys coming back from their 28 days on and now have a week off to go fish and are clueless on what is the go!

I don't fully agree on the

Thu, 2010-03-04 08:38

I don't fully agree on the amount and coverage of the RFBL. If you on a FIFO working site with a 12 hr shift, you not getting the same exposure as guys here in the big-smoke.
A lot of these guys don't buy fishing mags, they go into stores like K-mart, BCF etc to buy their stuff and are not exposed to the fishing media like we are. I work with dozens of guys like this.
They don't even know about Recfishwest etc...
besides the fishing columns in the West and other weekend print, where have you seen a information page for the RFBL being displayed and have you even heard one radio update on the major stations??? I'm talking the Nova's 96.1FM 94.5 etc?

not making excuses for these guys, just saying if you don't know where to look it's hard and if you not having access to the net for 28 days out of 35days in a cycle, then you out of the loop.
I bet you a slab of WA's finest brew that if you went to any major mine site and asked who fished? then whats the RFBL rules from them, the majority ( over 50%) would not know the full rules and what they can & cannot do!

Come on guys, you lot on FIFO who are on the web, ask around the general workers, the construction boys, labour workers, TA's, tradies etc...

Thu, 2010-03-04 12:08

Tony, face it you won't be happy until its on the goodyear blimp and its doing remote area tours.

I've heard the license mentioned on radio national and commercial TV stations, the newspapers as well but on nova and 96.1? No one listens to those stations to be informed, they listen to them for music and pointless idle banter.

If you're not informed now, then you just don't want to be.

Recfishwest? I know about it, but I'm certainly not for it and don't think they have done anything for me. Not knowing about them wouldn't worry me a lot either.

This thread and some of the others on the same subject is proof that folks that are exposed to the info and have access to mags, this forum and other forums, still don't have a good understanding of what the rules are! LOL!

Just like the Epirbs.

Thu, 2010-03-04 20:23

Last year when the satellites were turned off everyone cried foul, caught out by surprise, etc. Now we're getting the same thing with the FBL's. In both cases, people were warned by many outlets MONTHS in advance. If you have an interest in something, like boating/fishing, you should make an attempt to keep yourself informed.

I was doing 12 hour shifts/13 day fortnights while staying in a mine camp last year and had no trouble keeping abreast of things, while still keeping up with the obligatory piss-drinking and DVD watching.

I'd say people just dont want to adhere to them thats all there has been plenty of advertising about it when the whole thing about licenses came up at the start and the date for the rfbl has never changed it has always been march 1st for over 6 months.

I got mine the second day it was available via the web, paying by card so it is not that hard to get one.

Mon, 2010-03-22 08:56

two weeks ago I sent a letter to Fisheries to please explain the need of a RFBL or what ever it is called, and how it impacts on the use of the Rotto ferry, transporting across the Blackwood river by barge and the same for Dirk H Island as well.
Well still no reply back and after calling in, they say it's still being addressed.
So the long and the short of it seems that Fisheries themselves don't even know and can't give me a written response back,

Terry and the boys that deal with them, please place some pressure on them to clear up this as the Salmon will be arriving soon at Rotto and people will be going over by the ton.... and Easter Weekend etc.
I think it was not unwarranted to ask a simple question with regards to a line clearly stating that a license is required if a motorized boat is used to convey yourself to your fishing destination.

I await the response from Fisheries, as I have faxed again my letter and asked why the long wait?

Tony

If charter boats are exempt....

Mon, 2010-03-22 13:34

Dont you think public transport would be too. Just because its not written in black and white... (oops) Got to be careful what you typeSurprised.. I mean in legislation doesnt mean you need an rfbl to fish if you catch a ferry or barge. Mate come on thats just pathetic..

A little bit of common sense will go a long way and stop all these bloody roumoursWink.

well the rules are there and

Tue, 2010-03-23 08:14

well the rules are there and can be enforced even if they " not common sense".
Because something is in " black & white" in a law, it means it can be enforced and you could be the the poor bugger copping it.
Like the hoon laws with cars where your mechanic does the dirty with your car, like when some one sends you a pic attachment and it turns out to be some bad stuff that gets you arrested! etc...
The bottom line is the law was badly written and too quickly put in place, wording is wrong in many of the web-info pages and brochures they have brought out and contradictions in places.
If you going make a law, make it right and correct the first time, get the wording right and clearly defined with exceptions etc.

So after nearly 3 weeks now I still can't get an answer from Fisheries if you need a RFBL if you use the Rotto ferry to go fish on the island etc...

well finally got a response

Mon, 2010-03-29 17:09

well finally got a response from Fisheries today,
I can see their logic and how they apply it, but personally I think they use an interpretation that would be difficult to justify by the logic of non-fishing boats etc. But there it is, finally in writing.
You dont' need a RFBL if you fish off Rotto and access it by Ferry, but you do if you access it by your own boat, even if it is a yacht.
You do need it if you hire a tinny on the Blackwood or a house boat etc...as it's under your personal control.
