Fishing rod advice
Submitted by artygunner on Sun, 2013-02-17 13:32
Hi Everyone,
I have saved some pennies and am going to purchase a decent rod. I want something that can handle 3-5kg line. It is most important that the rodis not too rigid, I still want to be able to feel the whole fight of the fish. The action of the rod is very important to me.
I will spend up to $350 which I think should be enough for something pretty special.
Any recommendations are welcome.
Thanks,
Ryan

My son just got a fishing WA
My son just got a fishing WA rod and loves it. Personaly i love my nitro magnum butt. At 7ft 6 and 4-6kg its perfect for throwing lures and poppers at tailor. I think there is a T curve revolution in that line class as well. Have a good look at them all and choose the one that suits you.

I was thinking something
I was thinking something more like this - Anyone have any advice on this rod?
By using Bias Wrap Construction for an ultra strong, fine diameter blank the DB rods resist twisting, improve casting accuracy and have greater hook setting power. Built for optimal performance the DB rods use Fujis Silicone Carbide guides and the M tip guides to eliminate line wrap. Being so light these guides really accentuate the blanks characteristics delivering crisp responsive performance, ultimate power and allows for effective line heat dissipation.
The new Demon Blood uses the simple principle of more muscle and less fat to produce a fantastic range of saltwater rods.

Bias Wrap construction blanks
V-Joint on 2pce models

Ultra tuff EVA grips

You asked for advice on a rod
You asked for advice on a rod for 3 - 5kg line. The one you have picked is rated for 10 - 18kg line.? (PE 2-4 = 20 TO 40LB PLUS!) What are you going to be using it for.

yes, it is rated pe2-4, but
yes, it is rated pe2-4, but is definitely a light rod. not really 40lb+. Combi jerks are generally ideal for 20-30lb, but are not a stiff 10-15kg rod. The largest jighead i ever ran through my saltiga combi jerk was 4oz, and that tested it a bit.
What fishing are you doing? This is ideal for demersal jigging/placcy work - rather than dragging sinkers or casting for tailor (although isn't actually too bad for casting for tailor haha)
Better question - what reel will it be matched to?

you could go a custom build
something like a samurai 008 7 ft 4 to 6kg. There are alot of other blanks available. You can get 1 built to exactly what you want.

Thanks Cobia and Leemy.
ATM; I have a Pflueger Salt reel to put on it but am thinking of an upgrade to a Daiwa Catalina 4000 shortly after the rod purchase.

4000 size reel may be to
4000 size reel may be to large for 3-5kg work unless you think you'll need a hell of a lot of line (unlikely). Something in the 2000-2500 size may be more suitable. make sure you get a rod and reel that will match whatever you get otherwise it won't feel right.
What are your likely target fish and what styles are you hoping to cover -Bait, metal lures, plastics etc and what are you fishging from - Beach/rocks or boat etc.
Cheers

Rod
Hi mate, Were you after a rod that is suited to using 3-5kg line class or PE 3-5 (30-50lb approx)? If you like we can offer a few options once we know the intended line class and purpose of the rod?
Cheers
