Fishing shops in Bali - Where are they??

Heading to Bali in a couple of weeks and wanted to get some fishing gear whilst i was there, but dont know where they are located. Staying in Kuta.

I have been there once before and hunted around for days without success. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

toko manching

dimana toko manching? (indonesian - where is a fishing shop?)
ask the locals. it was a handy phrase all through Bali/Java/Sumbawa. got us to the fishing shops but didn't stop our dissappointment when we found em. super basic.
speaking to expats they get their gear on net or brought over with mates.
good luck.

when i was there last holidays i asked the taxi driver to take me to the fishing shop
not 100 percent sure where it was but it was about 10 minutes out of kuta

they basically had the crappiest gear you can buy or high end gear like stella's
hard to find stuff in the middle
but it really depends what your after

Was 3 or 4 shops in Denpasar last time i was up there. Taxi drivers will take you there. Nothing in Kuta. Got a calcutta 700 and a 100 for about the price of a 700 in Australia.

Fishing shops in Bali

Mon, 2009-08-17 16:15

I was there in July, there is one in Kuta, go up Legian Rd heading towards Bemo corner (heading away from Seminyak), left at Bemo corner, 2nd right and its on the left hand side. Only small gear and most of it is crap. I went to the "Shimano" shop in Denpasar, you can find the addresses on Baliforum.com, and looked at a few reels etc, very few overheads and they were more expensive than Perth if you were to shop around. So saying that, its a good way to spend a day, you never know what you might turn up. There is an online store johnsportfishing.com, try a search on balitravelforum.com for the addresses of the shops, thats what I did.

Good little shop. Some good prices on big rapala lures ect ..but i found the squid jig prices very cheap, for Top end jigs your only paying $10 instead of $20 plus.

BEAUTIFUL! exactly the type of info I wanted, every comment there was a winner. Going to print this page off and take it with me.
Wagyl i am just staying around the corner from Bemo corner, so thats an easy one now.. great directions!
Hansie going to try and memorize 'dimana toko manching' top tip! It sounds like the general consenses is that I could do better here, money for value wise. Will take D'Doush and Rohan's advice and will look around Denpasar as well, sounds like puri pancing is worth taking a look. Thanks guys very much appreciated.

I will go and have a look at that shop as well. Are the telescopic rods you got very strong?? I have bought one in the past and snapped it like a piece of chalk on the first decent fish i got on it.. A good telescopic rod is handy to keep in the car 'just in case' I am ever passing somewhere like the fremantle moles and see guys catching fish whilst I am supposed to be working...lol.

Very strong rods

i nailed a couple of GT's at Pardoo no problems. They do get a bit heavy after a while but thats why they are strong i guess - mine has disappeared from the shed but my brother uses his regulary paired up with an old 499 Mitchell.

That the one near the bridge? That was the most expensive one I went too. Seemed used to the westerners.

Caught a taxi to Puripancing

Sat, 2012-07-21 22:25

Caught a taxi to Puripancing but they were shutting shop at 4:45pm. Even Perth shops stay open later that that. Obviously making too much money.

Taxi driver then took me into the depths of Dempasar markets to a shop called Ud. Karunia. I was purely looking at their jigs & lures, so can't comment on their other gear. Cleaned up on what are obviously knock-offs of Japanese jigs. Also got their last stock of sea bass lures. Couldn't believe my eyes when i found some very decent japanese packaged squid jigs for $1.40 each. I'm talking harimitsu style jigs.

They have some big poppers and 200-700g jigs for those who are keen.

I finished up with a decent haul of tackle for $50.
