Fitting structure transducer and airmar transducer
Submitted by LandyAndy on Sun, 2013-09-15 09:44
Hi People.
Im about to instal a Lowrance structure scan transducer and an airmar 1kw transducer, both are transom mount to go on my Stacer 525.
Anybody with advice or photos of their install would be greatly appreciated.
Very little info in the paperwork, structurescan trans diagram shows 1 foot away from a standard transducer with the standard transducer closer to the engine.
Thanks

Hi Andrew
just remember that the structure scan transducer shoots to the sides so it needs to not be impaired buy anything ie other transducers , engine legs . You get the idea

Anybody have any thoughts on
Anybody have any thoughts on mounting the airmar transducer to the left of the motor.
From what I read its not ideal due to the possability of prop wash disturbing the beam. However it seems many do mount transducers either side.
My problem is if I allow the 12" gap between structure scan the airmar transducer the airmar will end up interfering with the boarding ladder.
It seems more suitable to mount it left of the motor.
Thoughts please.

No need to mount them close together
I don't have an airmar tranny - I have standard Lowrance. Chivers told me that if you mount them on each side of the motor then the downscan (I think) will not work as the two trannys need to be close by each other. If that's not a problem for you then mount them one on each side of the motor. I can email you a pick of mine (about 10 inches apart on stbd side of transom with Structure scan outboard). PM me your email.
I only mounted the Structure scan outboard as the standard 50/200 tranny was already fitted.
Suggest you give place of purchase a call or Chivers Marine.

The reason for them being
The reason for them being mounted close together is because you can overlay and downscan onto/over the normal sounder picture. They need to be close together otherwise the overlay is not as accurate but if your not going to overlay the picture and just show them as seperate parts of the screen it will not matter. The downscan will still work as downscan and the sounder as normal no matter where it is mounted as long as its mounted in a good spot for each. Both of mine are mouted on seperate sides but I have the overlay feature off.
Hope that helps

Thanks Paul.
INFO like that is hard to find.Got plenty of screen space so I think I will go your way.
Really need to have the airmar on the other side with the transom door and boarding ladder.

I only have the HDS 5 but am
I only have the HDS 5 but am about to get another and screen the structure scan on one and the sounder on the other - not hugely concerned about the down imaging as its just another way of showing what's directly below that being said having both (sounder and down imaging) can help with interpretation. I mainly wanted the structure scan showing out to the sides..

The downscan does give a pretty good view though compared to the sonar I reckon.

Agree but you get a similar pitcure on the sidescan to an extent (just have to turn your head sideways)- I prefer to use the screen size for that but do put it up in some situations
