Flathead parasite

Does anyone notice parasites on flathead ?
Went for a flick this arvo at Swan and hit a flathead. Took home to gut and scale it. When I was marinating it with salt, realise two worms wriggling out from the mouth. Took some shots of the worms...they can't stop wriggling on the plate. Not sure if it is the salt making them uncomfy.... Pull off another 4 from the mouth area after those 2 on the photo.
Honestly speaking, this is the 3rd flathead I took home from the river and all 3 have these little black parasites. I am pretty sure now most if not ALL flatheads from the swan have these little buggers.
- Did anyone share the same experience from keeping a Swan flatty ?
- Is that a leech or a paraiste worm ?
- Does it pose any harm to humans or it is just a harmless parasite that affects fish ?
Thanks...

leach/worm
I'm no expert , but I would not eat any thing that had those nasty looking things living in it ...... I never keep fish that iv caught in the swan doesn't matter what species, unless I'm going to use it for bait. Just don't trust the system after seeing the pics of those dolphins with that skin disorder ..... just don't think its worth the risk imo .

Yeh mate all fish i catch in the river go back. might be a bit unhygenic with the current state of some areas of the river. Where was it caught?

flounder
I caught a 41cm flounder on Wednesday that had the exact same parasite as the one you have pictured above.
looked like a little leech of some sort. had about 4 on its underside.

anything up to say
anything up to say claremont/point walter/applecross i would still eat, you can see the clean water flowing past bicton up to point walter on the incoming tide every day so the system gets a regular flush of nice sea water, in saying that its not parasites i worry about its heavy metals/fuel/oil from the ever increasing boat traffic and the recent port dredge that stirred up silt which surely contained particles of old lead based anti fouling, that is of more concern, as for parasites they are a natural part of the system i dont think water quality has alot to do with it.
but i wouldnt keep one if i noticed those things on it, i rarely keep fish from the river but next time i land a nice flatty will be keeping and eating it.
Here we go again.
