Flying to Broome - Rods

Hey All

Am going to Broome in May, and was thinking instead of taking rods/tackle on plane, that I would post up before getting there.

Do you think this would be the better way to go? And if so who would you recommend to use?

I only have a couple of rods, but one I want to take is 1.8m long when in half. If I can't take it its not the end of the world though.

Thanks

David

why are you taking a 3.6m rod?  What are you targetting?

Rod Holder

Mon, 2011-02-14 11:27

Last time I flew to Broome I went to Bunnings and purchase some 90mm pipe. Glued end cover on one end and screw top on the other. Rolled the rods up in old blanket of the bed and had no problems putting on the plane. This was some time ago and can't remeber if there was a cost or what the cost would be now. Tube was about 2m long. A lot cheaper than the cost of rod holders in the shops and does the same job. Still use it today for transporting my rods even on the car roof rack.

I've done the same as Iceman before and didn't have any dramas with the rodtube on the plane.  You can even put a chunk of foam inside each end.  Need to let them know beforehand though and from memory it was supposed to be only one rod (I had two in the tube).  Remember to not put any reels that have braid on them in your hand luggage, especially when returning from Broome.  Apparently the braid could be used to strangle a flight steward according to the security dude at Broome airport.  Then they gave me a knife with my snack  :)

Should be cool

As long as you have someone to send it to in Broome, thats the way Id go. Bit less to worry about when travelling, and you can send as many filleting knives as you need!
