fuel filter.

Hi guys.

new boat came with standard quicksilver fule filters. i havent had a chance to install one of the glass filters with the taps on the bottom.

since getting the boat about 2-3 weeks ago, the tank has been about 1/2 full (420l tank), i didnt want to fill it, as wanted to keep it low for the tow up north.

Just wondering how quickly water can accumilate. given the filters are new and only had for about 3 weeks, is water/condensation likley to be an issue by now? I have been using the boat fairly regulalry, and added new fuel  (premium) on 2 occasions. im not sure i will be able to get a glass bowl filter installed before leaving on saturday....

im used to storing the tanks full, so havent really worried about this too much previously, but its kinda in my mind now as could wreck a trip pretty easily!

cheers

for any advice!

I had a glass bowl filter installed on my cruisecraft in August last year. I regularly leave the tank half or 1/4 full for weeks sometimes months at a time. there still is no moisutre in the bottom of the bowl at all.

BTW, changing the filter to a glass bowl type is a 2 minute job. call a boat shop and give your current filter model number, and get them to organise a glass bowl one. takes 2 mins to unscrew the old, and screw in the new. you just have to prime the bulb to fill it up again.

haha now i feel stupid. turns out my regular service place has glass bowls that i can just screw on lol. here i was thinking i would have to detach all the fuel lines etc.

lesson learned!

wil feel a bit more confident knowing whats in the filter and being able to drain the wtaer out through the tap if needed.

 As said above, easily

As said above, easily solved. If you are ever worried about water in fuel (which the further north you are, risk increases) carry some fuel doctor or equivalent. Used it quite a bit when I lived in the NT.
