fuel gauge probs

hey guys

got honda motor / gauges so its the needle type , not digital.

was out today and tank was half full. stopped at 3 mile for a bit. re started motor and now fuel gauge doesn't move off of full except when you turn engine off.

any idea's on what that might be?

If it's a new gauge/motor...

...sort it out through warranty. If not, work out your average fuel consumption over all rev ranges, and estimate your distance travelled BEFORE your trip as well as what sort of wind/weather to expect, and you won't even need a gauge.

I would put money on Paul G's first suggestion.... Sounds like a cable is touching an earth somewhere.

Cheers,
David

got into the boat tonight

Mon, 2010-03-08 21:46

got into the boat tonight and tried ignition. now gauge works sods law.

so got my head down in the bilge properly after taking seating out. massive corrosion around the male female connectors that supply bait/wash pump. so bad that 1 lead connector was completely corroded away (just a pile of dust)

going to have to get some proper sparky's tools and re connect with some new wire.

but how to make it corrosion resistant?? can you spray it all over with lanolin and heat shrink it??

you can heat shrink it.maybe

you can heat shrink it.maybe make the cable longer so you can get it in a dry area, there is a tape you can get which has bees wax through it ,it is what we used on the cray boat for hose fittings ,it is fully water proof but is not cheap.
