Have the same problem
Have the same problem with my 587 running in 50hz with Tm260 transducer.
Works fine in shallow water but over say 250m it just clutters up . Don't have a problem when its running in 200hz , have tried lowering gain lowering tvg etc but if I get rid of all the clutter I lose bottom . So will be watching this thread to see if anyone can help.

Same problem
i have the 585 running tm260 with the same problem. I know you can get updates for the furuno at tailor marine. The main reason for the update is to be able to select the particular tranny your running, not just an only selection of 600w or 1kw. I believe the 588 has these different selections, so just check to see if you have the right setting for your particular tranny. I'm hoping this will fix my problem as its I think around $600 for the update.

Hey Alpha
I had the update done on my 587 not long after i got it as i too was unable to select the correct tranny in the menue . At the time it didnt cost me anything so think the $600 would be a bit steep. The upgrade made no difference to the performance of the unit

Damn
Damn Paul I was hoping that was going to fix my problem.
The other trick I learnt from Ryan's Snapper and Furuno night the other week was in your settings you can adjust your internal gain, 200khz and 50khz. The default is set at zero from there you can adjust + or - 20. You may already know this but if not have a look maybe that will help.
Disappointed I may have to rethink my spend on the updates.

You can adjust as many
You can adjust as many setting as you want but transducer needs to be in the right spot, can take a while to get it right, Have you any photos of the location.
Saying that there were a few faulty early TM260 on the 50htz side 200htz worked fine and soon as you switched to LF nothing.

Hey Kamo
is there any information on these faulty 50kHz ? I have the SS264 200 and 50 kHz pair and have just been informed by Taylor Marine that the 50 is faulty. $2k replacement so I would like to find out everything I can to see if there isn an avenue to approach Airmar.
cheers

I would be speaking with who you bought it through, and ask for warrenty especially when its been proven by Taylor Marine.

Big Guy,
There is a facebook page "Furuno Electronics" Good info there. Also a 5 minute video by a guy called Mark Reid on settings for the 588.

Yeah thanks guys for the
Yeah thanks guys for the feed back I’ve been running the TVG on medium and on LF it reads bottom fine but I just can’t seem to see much fish on the sounder. I pulled some 10kg plus Ruby’s off some areas were I saw very faint green lines. But next trip I’ll try running TVG on high and stuff around with tranny angle.
