Hey crew just gotta query for you guys. Looking at upgrading soon and was wondering if anyone can offer advice as to what the better sounder unit would be. Pay extra for furuno or go for koden. Both look like solid units, I currently use a 627 and love it. Cheers

I have a 587 and mate has the Koden 128. He only runs it on auto and its ok. When I'm driving I put it on manual and tweak it and its a fair bit better than auto. I find it more complicated to use than the furuno.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

I have a 628 with b117 and a mate has a 128 with a tm260, obviously he has a performance advantage, but I would go the Koden. The bottom lock/ bottom discrimination feature is superior in my eyes. It shows the bottom up from your prefered range (5-10m generaly)but shows bottom dendity below the 0m via longer tails no need to mess with shift and range to "Zoom" in on bottom to get an idea of density.
The link below is to the koden users manual, it describes all the zoom features in chapter 1-6.
Furuno bottom lock is similar to the Kodens bottom lock, whilst the Kodens bottom discrimination is a superior feature.

That's what I have been looking at but I'm so used to using furunos hahah I wonder how much of a learning curve with reading between the two there will be.

Easy long tails/thick bottom and red/yellow blobs above. Time to have a drop. I believe Koden can be linked to the GPS easier for a track back feature too.
If your GPS is long in the tooth maybe look at the Garmin gear. I believe John F has had good results (equal to 1kw 50/200khz) with the 600w thru hull chirp transducer.
