Furuno fcv 620

Hey guys this is my first post so go easy on me. I have recently purchased a Furuno 620 however i am wondering if you have any tips on how to tune this sounder to find fish and stucture well. I already own a Furuno LS4100 wondering whether the units will be similar to opporate.

Cheers.

I'm wondering what applications you use it for and the depth of the water you fish in and the settings you use, also wondering whether auto modes will be sufficient. I am also curious as to whether it performs in very shallow water 1-2m deep.

All information would be appreciated cheers.

Mate, in auto, it will do 90%

Mate, in auto, it will do 90% of whats its capable of......its only really in deep water that manual tuning becomes important.

THE most important parameter is the transducer (type, location and installation).

Thanks for that mate I believe my transducer placement isn't to bad got it reading bottom well at 18knots with my old Furuno LS4100. Looking forward to a colour display!

627 settings

Sorry jhawk for the delayed reply , I mainly fish in the 40 -120m range and run everything in manual mode but John is right for the first few outings you can leave it in auto to get used to the picture and once familiar start using your own settings and you'll learn the difference between the two .

I use a bit more " colour erase " than most to filter out the weaker signals and potentially smaller fish but this also depends on what fish being targeted ie you filter out the weaker signals and can miss the smaller fish ( KG's) or smaller schools .

I also run a bit more gain than most too and then use a bit more clutter erase to clean up the screen , I like having a strong signal .

Definatly use your bottom lock and range / shift functions to put the bottom where you want it on the screen ..

I also think you will struggle to find any sounder will display accurately in 1-2m of water, I think there is just too much clutter in that range to get a clear picture . It will display but may give false readings and I'm referring to marking fish here , I think the only reason to use them in swallow water would be in murky muddy creeks to find drop offs etc.

Hope this helps cheers fishfish ..
