fuse - yammy

fuse on my yammy has blown, lucky it happened when it was my turn to put the boat on the trailer...put a new fuse in and the moment the key is turned to crank the motor over it blows.

ignition coil, engine management system and fuel pump is labelled on the fuse

yesterday i replaced it 3 time and blew them straight away

next morning i unplugged all the ignition coils and connected them one by one whilst attempting to start the motor, trying to isolate the problem here... all six connected and the engine runs fine and no fuse blown??? any ideas anyone ???

i dont want the same problem when im out 20miles offshore

thanks in advance

might pay to trace wires to see if any exposed ones. could be crossd which will cause the fuse to blow. could take a while to do but better to check

Battery terminals?

Make sure you haven't accidentally reversed the battery polarity ie connected the battery leads to the wrong terminals

Edit: After re-reading your post I guess thats not it as motor was just running prior

tried

tried all the easy stuff so far, i do believe it could be a damaged wire shorting on the motor some were and has been isolated by me moving things around

it just has me stuffed that it was deffentely a problem and now its working,

does anyone know if ignition coils suffer from over heating? and come good once there cooler? do they suffer from water ingress?

i doubt/hope it is not the fuel pump or engine management system

the motor is a hpdi 200 btw

thanks

Hi Travis, I had the same

Hi Travis, I had the same problem on a 4St Merc . I found the fault to be the back of the key barrel. there was a very small part of the (pin hole) barrel that would short when I turned the key, blowing the main fuse . This would only happen at random, I ended up re insulating the back of the barrel and it has never happened again.

Worth a check.

TC.
