Garlic, how good it is!

Not at all fishing related... but...

Just wondering if anyone shares the love of Garlic as much as I do! What a wonderful thing it is.... tastes great and is good for you!

Was never that into it until I went through a health kick a few years ago and discovered it's benifits and started to eat it regularly. I used to suffer from the flu baddddddly and be bed ridden for days with aches and fevers but since getting on the garlic train I honestly havent' come down with one even slightly bad, even when the wife and kids have all been down with it, all I've noticed was a little sniffly nose. Such a good immunity boost!

Fav way to eat it is definately roasted.... slightly hard on the outside but soft in the middle.... mmmmmm... I actually just ate a lot tonight with my roast dinner! Also love it in foods ofcourse and even chopped up raw in a salad.....

Only downfall........ GARLIC BREATH! haha.. just as well I'm married and dont care anymore! Anyone got any good cures for it though? I've read there really isn't much to stop it but apparently Parsley eaten after it helps?

Also have a good 200 or so garlic plants thriving in the garden ready for harvest come summer.... got to be the easiest thing ever to grow! Nothing beats home grown!

Anyone else have love for the Garlic?!?!

On every thing

Thu, 2011-06-30 22:12

Put it on everything, it only smell's bad to others who don't eat it lol.

I had a friend stay with me for a while and he made pesto every night. He put fresh garlic, herbs, olive oil , etc in it. I ended up putting it on every thing i ate, even on a meat pie lol.

The one thing i noticed, every one else i know got the flu last year and we didn't.

Love and adore garlic

Fri, 2011-07-01 09:17

But unfortunately I work with people and thus can only have it on days that I dont work with them the next day. Then its on for young and old. I seem to love anything that makes you stink, especially asparragus and boy that makes your wee pong!!!!

Cheers

Neels

PS And it IS good for you

Yep I agree with all the

Fri, 2011-07-01 09:37

Yep I agree with all the above. The health benefits and the taste of that it gives what ever you are cooking is great especially roasted. Its great roasted and then put into soups or sauces.

Goodz 200 plants in the garden is a great effort. I can see why though I grow it myself and the home grown is awesome, it oozes oil when you cut it, has more flavour and lasts for ages after harvesting. Each season I seem to be putting in more as when you run out and you have to buy some its bloody expensive for anything that is half decent and has most likely come from overseas.

Yeah atleast when you grow it

Fri, 2011-07-01 09:44

Yeah atleast when you grow it yourself you know where it's come from and hasn't been sprayed and bleached to death like all the imported garlic. No pests like it in the garden so there really isn't much you have to do for it once you stick the clove in the ground!

Garlic and seafood is almost the same!!!

Where do you get your "seed" garlic from, or do you just buy some and plonk the cloves in the dirt?

Makes me violently ill

Each to their own I suppose however for something as delicate in flavour as really fresh prawns I have never understood why the hell anyone would obliterate that with half a pound of garlic aka Witches Caldron

Seriously perhaps garlic in quantity destroys the palate of these people

For us...

Fri, 2011-07-01 16:30

...it's great with crays and squid. It's also useful for when you want to chase vampires away and can't be bothered waiting for the sun to come up. Or am I thinking about werewolves?

Either way, you can get rid of your vampire/werewolf and still make it down to the boat ramp before dawn. What CAN'T garlic do?!?!?!?!

I have a few different

Fri, 2011-07-01 16:44

I have a few different sourced garlic from the local fruit and veg shop, organic shop in Albany and a few from a mate in Denmark who grows it. Locally grown or atleast Australian grown is a must if you want to grow it as the imported stuff has been sprayed to stop it from germinating I think. Although some will still sprout but I still wouldn't plant it.

Bodiie, just need to buy some garlic and plant each clove, leave the papery stuff on and have the root/flat end down. Plant about 5cm under the ground and they should shoot up within a week or less.

Yep, garlic is good stuff.

If you have any stale bread, just mince garlic, butter and a bit of salt and make garlic bread!

There is a place in the South

Tue, 2011-07-05 17:59

There is a place in the South West that grows many different varieties of Garlic and I purchase it from some of the Fruit and vege places from Bridgetown to Balingup. Garbo's dad also supplies me with fresh garlic from his garden and man I gota say it gets put to good use with just about every dish I cook. LOVE IT! You can never have too much.
