Garmin Sounders

Anyone had a play with the Garmin 7400 series sounders.

Mainly with the ability to pick up small half metre ledges in 30 - 40 m

Does the downview and planoptix features work?

Or do I stick with buying a Furuno 588?

 Interested as well.
We just went down the route of a Echomap 95sv as we couldnt justify the 588 for the shallow water and price.

Garmin Test.

Just as a test...Ring Garmin Australia and ask for some technical advice.

If you get through you're lucky, if they can answer your question then you've hit a winner.

No back up, no support, after three replacement head units on my old boat, i won't use anything but Furuno.

Maybe they've gotten better but i've learnt my lessons.

cheers

Give it another go F233

They even did some great improvements after I made some suggestions

The new 7400 series garmins are brilliant!

I'm running one in my new boat and its performance is outstanding. The have built in chirp which in my experience is very good for target seperation.

The panopix works very well too.

i'll see if I can upload some screen shots of mine in action.

I stand corrected then.

My experience was around 7 years ago...I think the unit was their top of the range at the time.

It kept freezing the screen and crashing so i had to send to a warehouse in Sydney.

First time came back, package unopened, second time came back repaired and the froze second trip out.

Third time came back as a new unit...Wait for it...With all marks wiped...About 400. I tried to save to SD card but, since it was frozen, couldn't get them to download.

It was at that point that Garmin was no longer permission to board any vessel tha i've owned since.

I'm glad they sorted it out. Still Furuno for me.
