General discussion within general discussion
Submitted by timboon on Thu, 2020-10-08 14:53
Well there have been a few heavy hitters on this site throwing their weight around with concerns blokes are talking about general discussion in the general discussion section... Sounds strange I know but is it time we listened to these big dogs...
Seems like its too offensive for grown men ( and a few little puppys ) to have any other discussions on a WESTERN AUSTRALIAN FISHIN FORUM SITE other than fishing...
I'm probably a serial offender for enjoying the banter the general discussion has on this site but we can't ignore the heavy hitters any longer...
So Adam.... She might have to go....
I hope i've posted this in the right section...

That's crap Beau, honestly what's having a general discussion section got to do with posting fishing reports?
If the general discussion section is such a problem then Adam could've gotten rid of it years ago. It's the old adage don't like the subject then scroll on, I do. No reason to get on a thread and destroy it with inane childish comments because you've got nothing constructive to add.
Can always post on the FB pages and cop the thousands of trolling flogs on there.

That's funny coz i was gonna say the same, don't you think half the shit on here should just be posted on your personal Facebook page instead?
Maybe if the members that constantly post non fishing content actually contributed to the fishing side of this page it wouldn't bother me so much, when was the last time you seen these guys post a fishing report?

And then again there are a few on here I could name that whinge about non fishing related stuff being posted that I can never recall seeing a post or report from so it works both ways. I don't have a problem posting whatever as long as it's sensible and generates good discussion. It's the one thing I like about the page that we can all contribute to current events or topics. 90% of the blokes on here love footy and it generates massive discussion and banter tell me that should be knocked off the forum?

I don't have Facebook,
I don't have Facebook, doesn't interest me.
I like meeting new people through common interests.
On here it starts with fishing, that's why we're here but then often you find there are some really informative fellas with a wealth of knowledge about a wealth of topics.
Then there are other blokes... Fuck all to add about anything really.
Beau I thought more of you than that, totally agree with Andy, don't like the post either don't read it or don't get involved.
I'm 42, when I was younger I would've been happy to rant n race about all the epic fish I've been fortunate enough to catch but now that doesn't interest me as much.
I hope you keep posting your reports Beau, they are quality and it's good having you around.
You too Markie but for different reasons.

Not everyone does Facebook .
Not everyone does Facebook . Boon need a few drinks or a lot less? As Andy said there are plenty of sections on this site to post everything else that is relevant to the topic. Don't like General Discussion just ignore it and put your reports in whatever section is apropriate. I personally like the fact Adam lets things run there course innstead of shutting shit down because someone somewhere might get offended.

No there isn't as much
No there isn't as much fishing posts on here any more as people were sick of getting slammed for paver shots.
Going back many years when I first came on here there was just as much common talk as there is now but the was also a lot more shit slinging. It is a site for all ages and of all interests.
The site has lasted this long because people keep it going .
I for another have no interest in that Facebook stuff

Good onya Russ, Markie
Good onya Russ,
Markie you've got me confused with someone else I'm afraid. Long blonde blowing in the breeze locks when I was young. Now just a receding 40+ year old...
Your pretty determined to try and hurt my feelings though eh, what next big guy, you've tried the name calling now trying to insult my looks oh my lordy lord...
Running out of ideas are you?
Now I get why Beau has chimed in, he's sticking up for his mate.
I see on Beau's posts you knock about a bit.
Good on Beau for his loyalty, he could obviously see you've shot your smart ass mouth off and he probably felt abliged to help soften the landing for you....
Is your name Mark? Markie is pretty cute though....

G'day Johnny, my fucking team lost many times this year... I'm a hawk and we finished bottom of the ladder I think...
I totally agree Johnny, there was a day I'd carry a camera around, I've got plenty of unreal pics before phones were as good as they are now to take snaps. Lots of people use platforms like FACEY!! Instagram etc to make themselves look amazing. Fucking tossers I say but there are plenty of people that have had an awesome day fishing with their kids or something that makes it well worth reading, each to their own. You'll never see me slinging shit on someone for a post they wanna post. If I disagree I'll give them my opinion but we are on an open forum.
Btw Johnny always love your posts - you've got a way with words mate.

Its a shame fisherman
Its a shame fisherman scrutinise every little detail in photos to find your spot or some detail that will selfishly lead them onto fish, or i would be posting pics every time i went out. Ive been burnt plenty of times by people ive showed spots to so now i fish solo and dont really post pics but i want to brag sooo bad but i know what it leads to. I couldnt give two shits if people give me crap, but posting pics publicly is shooting yourself in the foot unless you scrutinise details and make sure the photo or report doesnt give too much away. My metro red bass and mackeral only got 10 comments or so and i posted it because it was an extraordinary catch worth sharing and im pretty sure it could have been the only metro red bass caught ever?
This site is so much better than fakebook which like some of you fellas, I hate and choose to not to be a part of. Beau do you post to facebook because you have a bigger audience? I put up the flourocarbon debate post up a couple weeks ago and you didnt respond in that post but im sure you would have read it? not having a go cause I know you are a fisherman.
Keep it up Adam it may feel like a rough patch but alot of us would be stuffed without this site.
Cheers

Just try be conscious of your
Just try be conscious of your backgrounds in your photos, and if you can't, all phones these days have editing tools to blur out backgrounds, and while you're at it flip your picture horizontally just to throw people off further.
Didnt see the fluoro post, i dont get into the technical side of fishing, dont ask me about reels, rods, gear ratios etc etc, i just like catching fish.
One of those 10 comments on your red bass post is mine.
Its easier to post on facebook. When i post to this forum i upload my photos to a third party photo sharing site so i can share the best quality images here without this forum compressing the files, i then have to copy and paste each photo from that site to my thread here. It is a lot of time and effort. Yes, i know i don't have to do any of that, but it is appreciated by the members most of the time.
And not in reply to you specifically Jim, but the gps location embeded in your photos is just an option on your phone or fancy camera, to turn it off, go to your camera settings while you have your camera app open, and find the setting "Geo-tagging, Gps tagging or Location tags" and turn it off.
If you're someone who has the setting turned on specifically so you know exactly where you catch your fish, you can take a screenshot of that photo, your screenshot is now a completely new file and hasn't saved any of that metadata info from the original photo.

Take what you need from it.
Read what you want to, don't read what you don't need to. I read most posts ( never footy or cricket related because the only sport I like is lesbian mud wrestling ) yet only comment when I can add something of value to the topic. As for topics we're all like minded when it comes to fishing, drinking and dribbling shit so I see that as a plus when we diverge from purely fishing based content. Many a question has been answered for me over the years and a shit ton of good advice has been handed my way. It's not broken so why fix it?.
Hey Frosty should we start a Hungry spot memories conversation?.

The general posts here aren't actually too bad. But like everything, try not to make things personal.
The reason I don't post much fishing stuff is because my fishing results aren't post worthy, but I am happy to chime in on general social commentary. I don't think I'm always right...but I've always got an opinion.

Bradz its important to not get suckered into my fish is biggest i'm a fucking legend and or look at all these massive fish I've caught, its about getting on the water and having a bit of fun...
The younger crew with no kids, no mortgage etc etc they can fish anytime they like...
Life goes quickly when we get older with kids etc, windows of opportunities change, sometimes that fish that gets the family a feed after a lot of effort is way more rewarding than pulling up and donging 2 x 10kg dhus first drop...

The more you fish the more you catch fish, you know where they on the chew, you got fresh bait, all your gear is dialled in...

Thanks Andy, I just enjoy fluffing around, have some good gear on the boat but often wonder why my sounder shots don't look like others I see,
Don't see many fish so for me it really is fishing.
Running 2 Lowrance HDS Live units which both have cards and I can change between depending on depth,
1 is connected to total scan tranny and the other to TM275, perhaps I go to the wrong spots, but still enjoyable.

Skull at a guess I'd say you were a very mature 25 year old :)
What i mean by that is if you only fish once every few months you fuck around finding all your gear again, finding rigs/tying rigs etc etc...

Jeepers creepers, I haven't looked at FW for a while and the shit has hit the fan on this post.
Personally, I like the banter, even from the guys who hate Freo lol
I guess general discussion is general discussion and as said before, scroll on by if does not float your boat.
I really do enjoy the good quality posts from a few individuals and would really encourage anyone to feel free and put up what you have to offer, good or bad I still admire guys who put the time and effort to throw up a post and they're opinion.
I must admit I felt fairly intimidated early on, not by people but just the thought of being criticised.
I suspect there are plenty of readers and first time posters and maybe I'm not alone.
Anyway, a fishing community is just that, a group of people sharing a common interest, a difference of opinion is healthy but we are all here to make friends (hopefully) and share a passion and hopefully the younger guys feel right at home to post their perspective.
Cheers and have a great night guys.
