gold prospecting

I know this topic is none fish related ,but now winter is here and with this comes weeks of none fishing,i was wondering if anyone on the site, goes Gold detecting.I myself have done many years on and off. Haven't been for about five years as the kids have been to small and there is so much gear to take.Jesse is now busting to get out bush and have a crack at finding gold ,so we will be heading up in the school holidays. We have had some good finds in the past with the best being 230 ounces over 3 days. Unfortunately the price was no where what it is today to sell. At around a $1000 an ounce there is some good money to be made and it's tax free!!!!

GOLD!
Sounds like fun Paul - on my list of things to do aswell.
My Mum and partner have all the go gear for detecting (newbies), but no luck yet. They are camped up at Pardoo currently.
As I said to them; don't hesitate to call me and I'll bring the trailer to where ever to load up the find.
Good luck. You can't beat being out bush...if not on the sea. Where are you heading too?
Cheers Pete

Out wide gold spots are like
Out wide gold spots are like fishing spots ,very hard to find ,I think you would have more luck geting a fish than a nugget..
My mother in law is in Que for a couple of months ,so we will call in a see her on the way through,Ive been checking out some ground on google earth .A small area north of Que I'll start there and see were we end up .Four days isn't long as I normally do 10-14 day trips .Am looking forward to geting out bush.

Sounds like a great way to spend some non-fishing time.
Let's hope you get lucky. Sheeeshhhh 230 ounces... that makes for plenty more terminal tackle....

Wade's mrs here again (I'll have to get my own logon soon!)
All the rain in the midwest/goldfields this weekend may have uncovered a bit of gold! I'm working 50kms south of Yalgoo and we've had about 25mm in 24 hours. We have had 7 or 8 groups of prospectors on the mining leases (with their Miners Rights of course!) since before Easter....some are staying for 3 months or so! Sometimes they come into the mine mess for a feed and a few have said they've found some gold. Good on em, as the spots they're in have prospectors almost all year round (except the 50+ degree months with millions of flies!) and the areas have been smashed! Goes to show that with good rains and advances in detector technology there is more to be found. I was driving on the Yalgoo-Ninghan Road the other day through Hells Gates and there were some dudes with quads digging a massive hole 50m in from the side of the road....apparently they got a few nuggets!
Once again, please make sure you get the landowners permission (I've gotta say that as im an Environmental Advisor and also look after a pastoral station the company owns), as you'd hate it if someone set up camp on your front yard!
Good luck and may you all find some gold!

Out wide I to have been told
Out wide I to have been told of a spot like this, from one of the old boys ,a valley full of gold, the only prob is its four meters down under tones of rocks and soil ,and i don't have a shovel big enough..I also got told a place were you can get Rubys out of the quarts reef, now that would be something.
No gold around perth not in nuggets most quarts reef do contain gold ,but not in a payable amount. Moore river has been panned and there was a few specks found there to.Painse find would be the closest.but in saying that only takes one to step outside the box ,and try somthing different.

I used to try a little bit of it when I lived in the Pilbara
without much luck. Half the fun was just getting out and about though.

You could try
the sewerage pit at the old Montague Gold camp on the Sandstone-Meekatharra road - i know a certain person threw a few ounces in there when the police called in one day.

Leinster days
Took a few mates in the 90's to the back of leinster (near rockies reward the now closed mine). Found heaps with the biggest about the size of their fist. Caused great commotion at the time. Problem was my other mates (boilies, fitters etc) that took weeks making a multitude of nuggets from brass. Should have seen the faces. He he.

A small "nugget"
made from bronze rod left lieing around always provided a few laughs - amazing how many people knelt to tie their bootlace right beside it.

There is so much to know and look for ,I was very lucky my father in law and is mate introduced me to prospecting ,so I got 20 year expereance given in 3 years.you need to think whet was there when the gold was made hills could have been much higher ,creeks now long gone ,most of the gold we find are new sheds,or leaders still sheding gold. The 230oz was in an old creek beed long covered over some of the gold was a meter down under red dirt.
