good day out

hey all

headed out yesterday, first time in ages that we have finally had some goof weather. headed straight to the derwent had a jig resulting in one pinky, decided to head out deep to one of my deep spots and see if there was much around, with a little look around some fish started to show, so out went the sea anchor and down went the lines, whilst the lines where plumeting to the bottom we had 4 dollies come out of nowhere and started circling the boat, within a second we both had a double hook up on dollies, at the same time having to rods out in 300mts of water, trying to not get tangled whilst fighting dollies is hard work believe me, after landing them we decided to do another proper drift over my spot, next drift came and this time we where greeted by a big pod of dolphins free swiming around the boat, after dazing off to the amazing creatures before i new it i was hooked up big time, big head shakes and very hard to turn off the bottom it kept me wondering what the hell i had hooked, 15 mins later popped up a beauty 32kg harpuka, after that i headed into a few shallower spots, hooked into a 20kg grey band and jigged another that would have gone maybe 8kgs. all in all it was a great day out with some much needed weather.

cheers

luke

Hi Luke,
Correct me if I'm wrong but that's a Bass Groper you're holding up there.

And that's a mighty light jig for the second cod!

kasey, na its a puka mate, we got a 30kg groper about 3 months ago and theres a bit of differance i noticed, i got the smaller grey band on a 180g jacknifer in 110mts

tim, the weather held up nicely till about 3.30 when we were on the way back

rick, water temp was 19.4 and that was out wide so i was surprised there was dollies around, might have to go trolling for some on sunday

Hi Luke,
I'd like to see the other pic too.

I thought that was a Smith KGS! A very long and soft rod for jigging out in deep water!

Not often that you can drop 180g in 110m.

yer its a pretty light combo, im only running pe 3 big one on it, only drop with it on really good days for ambers and sambos, iv nocked a few 8kg ambers over with it.

geezz im really not sure if its a bass or a puka now, iv looked over previous puka and they look very similar, the sea bass that we got before lookes definately different

who knows, lol it put up a great fight

Here's a pic of all 3 together Hapuka, Grey Band and a Bass Grouper so you can easily see the difference
