Good spots down south
Submitted by axeten on Sun, 2011-10-30 18:59
Hey everyone,
Going to head out for a fish this Tuesday. I live in Bunbury and have had little to no luck around here. Problem is i dont know any spots down south (i'm very much a beginner).
Has anyone got some good spots for me and a mate to try? I have a 4wd so preferably somewhere on a beach but anywhere the fish are biting would be great.
Cheers

How far?
How far do you want to travel?
There are many spots around Bunbury, Buffalo / Belvedere Myalup, Binningup Preston beach and spots in between that produce sharks, tailor, mulloway, herring and whiting at this time of the year to the north and Forrest beach, Wonnerup then round to Quindalup, Meelup, Point Piquet, Eagle bay, Rocky point, Bunker bay, the Quarries and cape Naturaliste inside th bay worth a look to the south.
Depending on the weather the many spots down between the capes can and do turn it on if you put the time and effort in. Windmills, Sugarloaf, Yallingup, Torpedo rock, Canal rocks, Wyadup, Injidup,Moses , Bob's Hollow, Conto's, Slippery and Slopey rocks South Conto, Boranup, Hamelin bay, Deep Dene, Cosy Corner and Cape Lleuwin are good for skippy, sharks, herring, salmon [in season], so you have plenty on offer, now its up to you.

Holy crap,
Thats a lotta spots. lookin at goin anywhere along caves road or closer to Bunbury (busso/dunsborough etc).
I guess im looking for a more specific spot. I know where all the towns are you mention, but more of a "go down ..... road and then pull on the beahc, head south for 4 kms and park up"...... Something like that.
I know this is probably asking a lot, but just randomly pulling up somewhere doesnt seem to be working for me.
Thanks for all the ideas though, i will have a look at some maps.

Google earth
Use google earth to find the spots where you can get access right to the beach etc, all those spots are fishing spots that turn up good fish. Its a bit much to ask for exact locations----100 metres to the north of Binningup boat ramp used to turn up fish 20 years back but you have to try it to see if its still ok now, same goes for all the other spots

Mulloway
Hey guys i used to live in SA (victor Harbor) and fish the murray mouth in Goolwa beach, salt creek a lot for mulloway with quite some success. I now am living in Bunbury and havent yet struck the mulloway code here in the west. Looking at the moon phase and tides etc its looking good for wednesday night... does forrest beach fire much during this time of the year? I have mates who fish it with varied success. Or shall i head further south to smiths beach for an over night sesssion? Also has anyone fished off the rockwall in the bay there at Pt. Georaph? I have scoped this spot out a few times but havent fished it yet....
Cheers...!

Old Wonnerup
If you head further towards Bunbury from Port Geo to the old Wonnerup boat ramp and head right along the beach to the point, good for tailor, salmon trout, sharks and a chance of a mulloway at night.

Yep
Yep. The old ramp is opposite the floodgates , follow the beach up to the right, don't go over the bridge and left towards Forrest and Peppy beaches

Sounds like a challenging
Sounds like a challenging spot. I am heading for a drive down there today to scope out the reef set ups and access. Tomorrow night with the moon phase etc is lookoing like a good time providing the wind stays away. I have a mate that produces some serious fish from this spot but does put in a lot of time. Hopefully i can snag a few bait fish on the light gear to use as a livey or fresh fillet baits, set it out the back and wait for the show to begin haha. Ill definitely keep ya posted on the outcome, fingers crossed.
