GPS!!!

Just about to buy a new GPS.
Currently looking at the Lowrance HDS-7m and HDS-8m.
Anyone have either of these?
Putting in a new sounder and GPS, sounder will be a Furuno 585 and one of the GPS's above.
Main reason i was looking at the lowrance was because of the Navionics charts.
Has anyone heard of any issues with the internal antennas in these units? apparently all lowrance HDS units come with internal antennas, but can option up for an external. The guy at the boat shop said no need?
Prices so far are $1,400 for the HDS-7m and $2,400 for the HDS-8m.

bodie, my mate has a similar unit and hit problems with the internal antenna being under the canopy bar work , the unit dropped in and out of signal with the sattelites, he installed an external antenna all good now
