Mick

Similar thread a few days ago. I have a 5.4 m trailcrat and went through similar questions....came down to HDS and Raymarine A70D, both wide band digital.

HDS8 and above sizes look really good, and have smart keys at the bottom of the screen to make navigation easy. However, the smaller ones (in the $ range you have) dont have these keys and navigation is HEAPS harder despite the snazy looking menus.

Played with both HDS and Raymarine and went Ray A70D. Great unit and can recommend, but HDS8 and above would be nice. Take time to set up the transducer, it makes all the difference.

Hope this helps

John

was anohter +500 over the RayA70 I think. The Ray A70 went on sale at the time so sealed the deal. Go have a play and see what ya think. Dont skimp, pay the most you can bear.......its worth it.

No doub tthe Furuno is an excellent sounder, and most likley better than the Raymarine or Lowrance. I presumed you were looking for a combo GPS/sounder?

GPS/SOUNDER

Yeh Hi Mick

I would go for the HDS7 as a great bloody combo, it has nmea2000 and built in broadband sounder so its not just digital sounder.

It allows you to run your sounder at 83KHZ 50KHZ or 200KHZ. The unit comes with a Navionics GOLD australia wide map.

The good thing also you can purchase for it a later the structure scan as well .

The HDS7 go's for $1980 with the Aus wide map at All Boat Business in Kingsley.

hi mick

i can swear for the lowrance, i have just got the hds10...exellent, but yeah was a bit pricey.

i also have the navman trackfish 6600 which is now called northstar and again was great until i got my hds10.

have a look at this link for the northstar, get the gold card with it for a bit more and it is not a bad unit, easy to use, at a reasnoable price.

while there have a look at the 12' northstar combo, which is basically the same with a larger screen.

cheers

hi mate

i just got the bird 858 and value for money thought it was a very good unit. took it out for the first time on sat and the reading was very impressive. think the best thing about them is they are so easy to use and and the back up from humminbird is better ( that was from the dealers mouth). but yeah the lowrance seems pretty good as well.

And no complains. Mandurah Marine centre gave me a great deal. Just ask for Ryan.

Have no complaints about this and i think Hlokk also will say the same.
