Green Head - Boat Ramp

Heya All - Heading up to Green Head for a few days looking for a few fish.

Can anyone advise what the ramp is like there? I have a 5m Seafarer, any info would be appreciated!

Thanks and have a merry xmas!

ramp is good in the main

ramp is good in the main beach/ bay , probly your best bet
just watch the large lump of reef near the boat ramp jetty , especially at low tides this time of year
follow the leads out in a z pattern , gps mark the last lead position for your return

south side ramp is ok too

swell on the southwest corner heading out can be a bit hairy if its above 2.5 metres & your not paying attention ,when you leave the beach/bay ramp so just use your good judgement & stick to the outer leads if swell is up , same coming back in

 Ramps pretty good this time

Wed, 2014-12-24 10:45

Ramps pretty good this time of year, can get pretty weeded up during the winter tho! There's a very shallow reef only 15 or 20m's south west off the end of the finger jetty, so watch out for that. Oh and the jetty is  usually an inch thick with seagull crap so watch out for that too.

Launch my 4.8 there a bit, as long as there isn't a 3m + swell running then there isn't much if any surge. And follow the lead lines closely to get out of the bay, heaps of shallow reef through there.

Take fuel with you as supply

Wed, 2014-12-24 12:24

Take fuel with you as supply at general store has been a bit hit and miss , shop is for sale may have changed hands now , i think they may have had trouble paying their bills as sometimes no fuel for weeks and liquor store side of things empty, plus friggin dear ,  you can get fuel at leeman not far up the road and normally a fair bit cheaper,we always launch at old concrete beach ramp in south bay as its not as open to seabreeze and surge as anchorage or town ramp ,which can be washing machine like and bash  your boat about , stay on your leads if you are unfamiliar with area ,as swell can be hairy.

First time in about 4 years  we havent gone up to the shack for xmas new years as fed up with getting blown away , typical because we aren't there the weather looks good , tip if too swelly to get out , night fishing anchor and berley up inside the bay you will get jewies at night no problem find the right bottom,  king wrasse best bait.

Good luck if you can get outside make sure to have a floater or balloon out, mackies sharks etc ,do this with a livey night fishing inside the bay even if in less than 10m as big jewies hang back away from the boat and will pick up a floater , grab some led lit balloons great for night fishing as you can easily see them, I buy them online but imagine spotlight maybe red dot will have them.

If you are thinking of a beach fish the beach just north of Sandilands island just south of Sandy cape camping area 4wd access is about the only beach on that coast with a decent gutter and good fishing , o the rest are all shallow, but get there early as will be busy this time of year.

Hope this helps , could give you a stack of gps marks as been fishing there for 25 years, but then I would have to kill you , open up your chart on your gps approx 15 mile west you will see an area of good lumps some of which come up to 35 m from around 50m  good ground  pretty obvious on chart , a very big area , head straight out there first thing ,you can work back or a little further some more lumps whitey commonly worked this area when operating out of Jbay , you will do alright round here gives you something to aim at rather than going in blind , just be wary of the swell especially round the back of the reef near islands , hope you do well .

Regards jamey

I was up there about 6 weeks ago and the main ramp was getting sanded up. A bloke I know with a cat had to come in on a mid tide or better
